Just two months after the BJP came to power in Delhi, the capital’s decade-long 24×7 electricity supply has unravelled—triggering hours-long power cuts, parching entire colonies, and forcing desperate residents to queue for inverters. On a visit to Ambedkar Colony in the Chhatarpur Assembly, Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Delhi Assembly, Atishi, exposed the crumbling state of basic services, pointing out that the BJP government is plunging the city into a full-blown power crisis.
On one hand, the BJP-led Delhi government and its power minister claim there are no electricity outages in the capital. On the other hand, the LoP Atishi is engaging directly with citizens to expose the falsehood of these claims. “Inverter sales have skyrocketed after a decade of no demand—this is not a coincidence, this is BJP’s misgovernance,” she said, as residents, boiling in the heat and surviving on erratic water supply, expressed bitter regret: “We are getting neither electricity nor water. We regret voting for BJP.”
Speaking on the occasion, Delhi Assembly LoP Atishi said, “There are severe power outages in various parts of Delhi. It hasn’t even been two months since BJP took over, and they have already dismantled the 24×7 power supply system that was running smoothly for the past 10 years. Meanwhile, the BJP power minister continues to lie, claiming there are no power cuts.”
She added, “The BJP government has completely failed to provide electricity in the nation’s capital. Under the AAP government, Delhi had uninterrupted power. Today, it is struggling with frequent and long outages.”
Atishi said, “People in Chhatarpur are in distress due to daily power cuts. There are several outages each day, lasting for hours. Earlier, electricity and water were regular here, but now there’s no electricity for hours and water supply comes only once every 8–10 days—only when the electricity goes out.”
Atishi also spoke with an inverter dealer in the area. The shopkeeper shared that due to the power cuts, there’s been a sudden spike in demand for inverters. “In the past 10 years, inverter demand was negligible. But in the past month, sales have increased rapidly because of the electricity crisis,” the shopkeeper said.
Residents echoed the concern, saying, “Life has become unbearable in this heat. Buying an inverter has become a necessity. Without it, it’s impossible to manage.”
Atishi added, “If there’s anyone happy with the power cuts in Delhi, it’s the inverter dealers whose sales have seen a boost.”Frustrated residents under the BJP government said, “We regret voting for BJP. We are getting neither electricity nor water.”
During the interaction, people shared that electricity goes off for hours every day in Chhatarpur—whether it’s early morning during water collection time or at night when people are trying to sleep. “Earlier we had 24-hour electricity, now daily power cuts have become the norm,” they said.
Locals commented, “The BJP has ruined a well-functioning system. Every day during this summer, electricity goes off for 2–3 hours. We regret voting for the BJP.”
They noted, “This is just the beginning of summer, and we’re already seeing such massive outages. Things will get even worse in the coming months. It’s becoming impossible to stay indoors in the heat without a fan. The elderly and the sick are the worst affected. Children are also facing huge difficulties with their studies due to the power cuts.”
