The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) today condemned the attack on AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal’s Padyatra in Vikaspuri. The party also exposed that members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Yuva Morcha carried out the attack. Senior AAP Leader and Delhi Cabinet Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj stated that two senior office bearers of the BJP’s Delhi youth wing were involved in the incident, which he described as a disturbing display of desperate political tactics. He also informed that both the attackers had unsuccessfully contested MCD elections on a BJP ticket.
Saurabh Bharadwaj revealed that two individuals, Rohit Sherawat, Vice President of the BJP Yuva Morcha Delhi, and Arun Dagar, General Secretary of the same, directly participated in the attack on Arvind Kejriwal’s yatra. He pointed out that their roles within the BJP’s youth wing are publicly displayed on their Facebook and Instagram profiles, making it clear they are not simply “ordinary citizens,” as some BJP leaders have suggested.
He added, “Arun Dagar was a BJP candidate for Ward 35, Mundka and had lost. He is the man who took off his shirt and was causing a scene at the Yatra. The other individual, Rohit Sherawat, was also a BJP candidate for the 2017 municipal elections in Ward 19 Ranjit Nagar.”
“The Bharatiya Janata Party has stooped to a new low in Delhi politics. For years, they have tried to disrupt Aam Aadmi Party events by tempting people into causing disturbances. However, with people now rejecting these divisive tactics, BJP has resorted to using its own senior officials to disrupt a three-time elected Chief Minister’s event,” said Saurabh Bharadwaj.
Accusing the BJP-led central government of supporting these actions, Saurabh Bharadwaj noted that the attackers openly threatened to continue assaults on Arvind Kejriwal. He claimed that senior Delhi Police officers, operating under the central government, were seen conversing casually with the attackers, even folding hands in front of them This, he argued, is evidence that the BJP at the state and central levels is responsible for orchestrating this incident. “It is absurd that BJP leaders like Virendra Sachdeva and Vijender Gupta are labelling their own party officials as ‘ordinary citizens’ in an attempt to mislead the public,” he added.
Highlighting the BJP’s frustration over AAP’s rising support, he said, “BJP has filed numerous false cases, imprisoned several senior AAP leaders, and even attempted to harm Arvind Kejriwal’s health by denying him diabetes medication while he was in jail. Yet, AAP leaders have emerged stronger, gaining public support and actively campaigning.”
Saurabh Bharadwaj underscored the importance of maintaining dignity and decorum in politics and called upon the BJP to hold its members accountable. “It is very shameful. I believe there are millions of people in the BJP who would consider this a cowardly act and tell the BJP that what it is doing is very cowardly and unbecoming.”
Referencing the failed political careers of the two BJP goons he concluded, “These two rejected and undeserving BJP representatives, who could not win MCD elections, are causing such disturbances in front of a three-time elected Chief Minister. Having been defeated by the public in the elections, they are now left with no option but to behave this way. The public has already rejected them in elections, and now they are just performing for attention.”
