The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has decided that only those office bearers who performed well in the Delhi elections will be given responsibilities in the organization. This significant decision was made during a meeting held on Friday at the party headquarters, led by former minister and Delhi State Convenor Gopal Rai, which included all AAP MLAs and candidates who contested but lost the elections.
AAP Delhi State Convenor Gopal Rai stated that AAP is advancing its organizational restructuring process in Delhi. As part of this, the party first held a meeting with state-level office bearers, followed by discussions with assembly-level office bearers. In the third phase, meetings were held with all frontal wing office bearers.
Gopal Rai further explained that on Friday, the party conducted a meeting with all candidates who contested the assembly elections. A detailed discussion was held on each constituency, evaluating the roles played by different individuals in the election campaign. A decision was made to assign organizational responsibilities to those who contributed positively during the elections.
On the issue of the CAG report on healthcare services, Gopal Rai criticized the BJP’s statements, stating that the same rhetoric was used before the elections and continues even after forming the government. “People did not elect them to just keep talking; they were chosen to work. It has been 20 days, yet the BJP has not announced a single agenda for the welfare of Delhi’s citizens,” he said.
He pointed out that the BJP had promised to pass a proposal in its first cabinet meeting to provide ₹2,500 per month to women, but no such proposal was passed. Even in the first assembly session, this issue was not discussed.
Gopal Rai questioned why the BJP was not presenting all reports together. “They are deliberately releasing reports one by one to create drama instead of working. They want a one-sided discussion in the assembly, ensuring that opposition leaders are absent,” he said.
He asserted that AAP MLAs were first suspended for a day, then for two days, and ultimately banned from entering the assembly on the third day. “It is clear that the BJP wants to run the government by mere sloganeering, but they were given the mandate to work, and they should focus on that,” he added.
Gopal Rai also pointed out the Delhi Assembly Speaker is acting under pressure from the BJP and adopting a dictatorial approach. “During the Lieutenant Governor’s address in the assembly, BJP MLAs chanted ‘Modi-Modi’ slogans, but no one was suspended. However, when AAP MLAs chanted ‘Jai Bhim,’ they were immediately suspended. A legislative assembly cannot have two sets of rules,” he said, calling out the Speaker’s biased actions under BJP’s influence.
On the issue of law and order, he stated that even before the elections, the responsibility for Delhi’s law enforcement was with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and it remains so today. “The police and other enforcement agencies report to him. Yet, the BJP has failed to explain why they have not been able to improve Delhi’s law and order situation. They must present a clear roadmap to the public on how they plan to address this issue,” he demanded.
