The Aam Aadmi Party has demanded the resignation of LG V.K. Saxena over the death of mother and son due to drowning in the drain being constructed by the Central Government’s DDA in Mayur Vihar Phase-3.
Senior AAP leader Sanjay Singh says that after heavy rains on Wednesday, the drain under construction was filled with water. DDA had not even put up any board there, so that people could know. A two-and-a-half-year-old child fell into that drain. Seeing him drowning, his mother who came to save him also drowned in the water and both died tragically.
Sanjay Singh stated that this is not an accident, it is murder. The DDA under LG is directly responsible for this, but BJP and LG are completely silent on this. Meanwhile, local MLA Kuldeep Kumar said that DDA did not follow the safety instructions issued, which resulted in the accident. AAP Chief Spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar said that the LG is very fond of stopping the work of Delhi government, but he does not pay any attention to the departments under him.
AAP Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh said that on Wednesday, there was heavy downpour in Delhi and several other states due to which many places were flooded with water. Our MLAs, our MPs, our ministers, went themselves and did as much work on the ground level as they could. They did whatever necessary arrangements they could get done by calling the officers and employees concerned.
He continued, “A very unfortunate incident took place amid the heavy rainfall. However, I see that the BJP and the Lieutenant Governor are completely silent on this incident. The reason is that in the area of Mayur Vihar Phase 3, on the Delhi-UP border, a drain was being reconstructed by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), which comes under the jurisdiction of the LG and the BJP.”
Showing the pictures of the open drain where the tragic incident took place, Sanjay Singh said that this is criminal negligence. The drain was not covered and there was no sign of caution to indicate that construction was going on there.
The senior AAP leader stated, “A two-and-a-half-year-old child died after falling and drowning in the open drain. To save him, his mother also jumped into the drain. Unfortunately, the mother-son duo died tragically. This is not an accident; it is a murder. This murder was committed by the same people who left the drain open for construction and did not take necessary precautions. The DDA is clearly responsible for this. Wherever the BJP or the Lieutenant Governor are responsible, they go completely silent.”
The Rajya Sabha MP further questioned, “Who is responsible for this incident? These BJP people keep saying ‘Arrest the Mayor’. Our Chief Minister has been put in jail; they keep demanding his dismissal.”
“I want to say dismiss the LG for this incident, take strict action against him because an innocent child and his mother lost their lives because of his negligence. This shows how the DDA and the BJP are working,” asserted the senior AAP leader.
Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh stated, “I have also learnt that there are leakages in the Parliament too. They are leaking papers on the outside and there are leakages in the Parliament. There are leakages everywhere because ‘Modi Hai To Mumkin Hai’ (if Modi is there, it is possible).”
He stated that there are leakages everywhere, there’s bribery everywhere. Whether it is the Bundelkhand Express, Purvanchal Express, or Dwarka Express, all of these expressways are filled with potholes. Hard earned money of the public is being invested in the construction of random things.
“As soon as it rains, sometimes the Delhi airport collapses, sometimes the airports in Rajkot and Jabalpur collapse. There are massive cracks in the Atal Setu. The Morbi bridge collapsed, various bridges collapsed in Bihar. What is happening in this country after all,” Sanjay Singh questioned.
Taking potshots at the BJP, he said, how much bribe have the BJP people taken through electoral bonds? How much donations have they looted to be putting people’s lives at risk? If they were taking bribes, they should have at least thought that the Prime Minister and the Home Minister also sit in the Parliament. Let alone that, they did not even spare Lord Shri Rama, the roof of the sanctum sanctorum of Lord Ram’s temple started leaking in the first rain.
The Rajya Sabha MP demanded, “All the companies which worked in the construction of the Parliament, how many bribes and donations did they give to the BJP through electoral bonds should be thoroughly investigated. We have also learnt the name of a company which has designed the map of the Parliament, that is, ‘HCP Design, Planning and Management Pvt. Ltd.’ This company belongs to Mr. Bimal Patel of Gujarat.”
Sanjay Singh added, “I want to know that if the country’s Parliament is not able to bear the brunt of the first rainfall, then you should think about the depth of corruption. The BJP is completely immersed in corruption from the head to toe. They want bribes in every place, in every construction project. They gave tenders worth about Rs 3.2 lakh crore to those companies which bribed the BJP through electoral bonds. The BJP is taking bribes by putting the lives of the people of this country at risk,” he stated.
Addressing the media, Kondli MLA Kuldeep Kumar said I have to say with great sadness that a mother and son died yesterday evening due to the failure of Delhi Development Authority (DDA). A boy and his mother fell into the space which was left empty during the course of construction of the drain which is being built by DDA between Delhi and Khoda Colony of UP. The stretch was left empty without any sign of caution in which the boy first fell into and in an attempt to save him, his mother went inside and both of them died by drowning.
Kuldeep Kumar said I want to ask the Lieutenant Governor of Delhi that the DDA department of Delhi comes directly under you. “You are fond of interfering in the works of Delhi, you show great enthusiasm in threatening the officers, but you do not pay even an iota of attention to those departments which come directly under you. This death is not an accident, it is a murder which happened due to the negligence of those officers who left the place empty without any barricading, without any sign, knowing that it was raining in Delhi,” he said.
Seeking stringent action against the guilty, the MLA said, “So, Governor Sir, when will you punish such officers, when will you suspend them and when will you register a murder case against them? I request that that family should get justice, a murder case should be registered against those officers, those officers should be suspended, and Lieutenant Governor Sir should come in front of everyone and take responsibility that due to his negligence, due to the negligence of his officers, a mother-son left this world. They should get justice,” said Kuldeep Kumar.
The MLA said when this incident happened, he was present on the spot at night and later in the hospital when the bodies of the victims were kept in the mortuary for post-mortem. We are standing with them in this hour of grief. But today, those who used to do politics on every issue are missing because now the fault is of the Lieutenant Governor and the spokesperson of the Lieutenant Governor will not come out now, they will all hide in their homes, concluded Kuldeep Kumar.
AAP chief spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar said you all know that there is multiplicity of agencies in Delhi. You must have seen time and again that the LG is very fond of stopping the work of Delhi government but is never seen anywhere to do his own work properly. Even the Supreme Court said in October 2023 that the condition of Delhi is being worsened just to get unreasonable powers and made this comment on DDA, which comes directly under the LG. “The incident that happened was very sad, unnecessary and avoidable. When it is raining so much, when it is known that cloudburst happened in Delhi and Uttarakhand and so much waterlogging is possible, then how did you leave such a big manhole open, how did you not cover it? This was so avoidable, this manhole should have been covered, DDA should have done markings here,” she said.
Priyanka Kakkar said all LG has to do is to do his work properly, stopping the work of Delhi government is his primary job but he should fulfill his duty, do his work properly. And not just in Delhi, wherever any construction is done under the BJP in the entire country, they fill their pockets with money. “They do not care about people’s lives, they get rid of it by giving compensation of Rs 2 lakhs. A case of murder should be registered against such people, only then accountability will be fixed,” she said.
