The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is gaining ground ahead of Delhi assembly elections; three-time Congress MLA and prominent Dalit leader Veer Singh Dhingan has joined the party. “Delhi stands with us, and we’re heading for a massive victory,” AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal declared, emphasizing the party’s appeal based on governance. This comes just days after another Congress heavyweight, five-time MLA Chaudhary Mateen Ahmed, and his family joined the AAP.
AAP National Convener Arvind Kejriwal warmly welcomed former Congress leader Veer Singh Dhingan into the party by wearing him with the party’s signature cap and ‘patka’. He said, “Today is a day of great joy as Veer Singh Dhingan joins the AAP. A towering figure in Delhi politics, he has dedicated many years to public service and social work. His presence will greatly strengthen the AAP, especially in our mission to uplift the Dalit community.
“In the Seemapuri Assembly, Veer Dhingan has done outstanding work for the people, who still hold him in high regard. Today, we are proud to welcome the future MLA of Seemapuri into our party,” asserted Arvind Kejriwal.
The AAP Supremo emphasized that in Delhi, the party seeks votes purely on the basis of its performance. “We tell people openly: ‘If we’ve worked for you, give us your vote. If not, don’t.’ This work-driven approach has attracted many capable leaders from other parties to join us,” he added.
“Last week, several BJP leaders joined the AAP, and today, we are welcoming Veer Singh Dhingan. With Delhiites standing firmly with us, this growing trend clearly signals that the Aam Aadmi Party is on course to secure a strong majority and form the government in the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections,” he concluded.
Meanwhile, senior AAP leader and MLA Durgesh Pathak stated that Veer Singh Dhingan, a highly respected and well-known leader, is joining the AAP today. The former Congress leader is a three-time MLA from Seemapuri, has an extensive track record of public service in Delhi. He has served as the chairman of both the Delhi Khadi and Village Industries Board and the SC/ST Board of the Delhi government. Known for his dedicated work for the Dalit community and Delhiites, his addition to AAP brings immense experience and commitment to the party.
On the other hand, three-term MLA from Seemapuri and former Congress leader, Veer Singh Dhingan stated that in the presence and with the blessings of AAP National Convener Arvind Kejriwal, I am joining the AAP. He said, “I bring with me a long political career and extensive experience. However, the growing exploitation of people, neglect of Delhi’s citizens, and rising corruption in parties like Congress and BJP have deeply hurt me.”
He further stated, “What troubles me even more is the hypocrisy within Congress. They say one thing in public but act entirely differently behind closed doors. Take yesterday’s municipal elections for the Mayor, for example, Congress indirectly supported the BJP. If they truly claim to uphold a secular mindset, why wouldn’t they align with others who share the same vision? Why wouldn’t they take a firm stand against the BJP? Congress’s actions, effectively aiding the BJP, were deeply disheartening and disappointing for me.”
The former Congress leader asserted that he has personally witnessed how Arvind Kejriwal started his journey in his area through an NGO, visiting the poorest households, understanding their problems, and working tirelessly to address them. His genuine care for the marginalized, backward, and Dalit communities is unparalleled. “While many political leaders loudly claim to care for Dalits, Arvind Kejriwal has actually delivered. The numerous schemes implemented in Delhi that directly benefit the Dalit community are proof of his commitment to their welfare,” he added.
Veer Singh Dhingan praised the AAP’s efforts, saying, “Under Arvind Kejriwal’s leadership, AAP has worked with honesty and dedication for the welfare of the common people and the development of Delhi. From providing quality education to spearheading development projects, the party has left no stone unturned in improving the city.”
He concluded, “I place my full trust in Arvind Kejriwal and pledge to serve the people through the AAP. I have always worked selflessly for the public, without any personal desire or greed. The love and respect I have received from the people are a testament to this. I am confident that I can contribute to strengthening the party and work alongside Arvind Kejriwal for the betterment of society.”
