The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) pointed out that Rahul Gandhi is attempting to whitewash the Congress’s role in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots with “superficial love” and hollow apologies. Slamming Rahul Gandhi for acknowledging the Congress’s past “mistakes” without accountability, AAP Chief Spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar said the people of India—particularly Sikhs—will never forgive the Congress for orchestrating one of the darkest chapters in the nation’s history. “Sikh homes were marked, men were burnt alive, women were raped—and those responsible were rewarded, not punished,” she said, asserting that Rahul Gandhi had elevated the very leaders who oversaw the carnage.
During a media interaction, AAP‘s Chief Spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar stated, “Sikh homes were marked, children were killed, men were burnt alive, women were raped—what good will come from Rahul Gandi merely accepting a mistake now? Just look at the newspapers from that time. International media had called it ‘mother of all cover-ups’. Go through the court judgments; they say ‘our heads hang in shame’. It was a massive, premeditated genocide.”
She asserted, “People responsible for it—state machinery and congress leadership—what action was taken against them? Congress, during its tenure, consistently promoted Sajjan Kumar and Jagdish Tytler, and it was under Rahul Gandhi’s leadership that Kamal Nath was made Chief Minister. What kind of mistake is Rahul Gandhi accepting? Token gestures of love mean nothing.”
She questioned the party’s failure to act against proven offenders, stating, “Congress should have taken action against those leaders who were proven to be involved in the riots. But they did nothing. The public will not forgive them for this display of hollow affection. Those involved in the Sikh riots must be punished. Under Rahul Gandhi’s leadership, those responsible for the Sikh riots were promoted. So merely admitting a mistake is meaningless.”
