The BJP has broken its promise of giving Rs. 2500 per month to Delhi’s women, making it clear that it won’t fulfil any of its promises. Women had hopes from the new Chief Minister, but they were disappointed in the very first Cabinet meeting. Senior AAP leader Sanjeev Jha held a press conference on Friday and slammed the BJP government for betraying Delhi’s women within just 24 hours of taking office.
Senior AAP leader Sanjeev Jha reminded the public of PM Narendra Modi’s grand promises and said, “The Prime Minister had declared that in the first cabinet meeting, Delhi’s women would receive Rs. 2,500 as a ‘suraksha kawach.’ He even told them to link their Aadhaar and check their bank accounts because the first instalment would be deposited before 8 March.”
Taking potshots at the BJP’s track record, Sanjeev Jha stated, “The entire country knows that BJP never fulfils its promises. But since Delhi got a woman Chief Minister, women at least hoped that this promise would be honoured. Even JP Nadda, BJP’s National President, had held press conferences saying the first instalment would be approved in the first cabinet meeting.”
He added, “Yesterday, that meeting took place. Delhi’s women waited for the decision. But when CM Rekha Gupta held a press conference, all they got was deep disappointment. The very first promise has turned out to be a fraud. And as they say—the child’s future can be seen in the cradle—if this is how BJP’s rule begins, none of their promises will be fulfilled. But Delhiites have sent us as opposition, hence it’s our responsibility to remind the ruling party of the promises they made.”
Highlighting Rekha Gupta’s response when questioned about the broken promise, he said, “When a journalist asked her about it, she said—‘This promise is in my mind.’ First, we had a Prime Minister who did ‘Man Ki Baat,’ and now we have a Chief Minister who keeps promises ‘in her mind’. But Delhi’s women don’t need ‘Man ki baat’—they need action.”
He warned the BJP, “If you don’t fulfil your promises, I will remind you of them in the Assembly. I will hold you accountable. We won’t let your government have an easy run if promises are not fulfilled.”
Sanjeev Jha concluded by saying, “Today, an elderly woman asked me—‘Beta, when will the Rs. 2,500 come?’ I told her—this government is of the liers. But I promise you, I will raise your voice in the Assembly and remind them of their deceit. If BJP thinks they can get away with breaking promises so easily, they are mistaken. We will not let them off the hook.”
