Even as the BJP’s “four-engine government” boasts of transforming Delhi into a world-class city, it has gifted residents yet another garbage mountain—this time near Majlis Park Metro Station in the Civil Lines zone. On Saturday, senior AAP leader and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the MCD, Ankush Narang, visited the site to assess the growing crisis and slammed the BJP for creating a fourth landfill instead of eliminating the existing ones.
The MCD House LoP pointed out that the entire MCD waste is being dumped at this new site under instructions from BJP Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh and Civil Lines Zonal Chairman. “The stench from this heap has made life unbearable for locals,” Ankush Narang said, calling it a direct betrayal of Delhiites who were promised a cleaner, livable city. He was joined on-site by AAP councillors Ajit Singh Yadav, Joginder, Pappu, Timsi Sharma, and Ajay Sharma.
MCD LoP Ankush Narang stated that Majlis Park, which falls under the Civil Lines Zone and houses the Majlis Park Metro Station, has now become the site of a fourth garbage mountain. “The BJP used to talk about removing the three existing garbage mountains in Delhi. But now, instead of eliminating them, it has created a fourth one,” he said. “Garbage, silt, and C&D waste are all being dumped here. MCD is no longer sending waste to the existing sites—it is building a new dump yard altogether,” he added.
The MCD LoP pointed out that this zone comes under the jurisdiction of Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh, who is also the area councillor, and Ward Chairman Gulab Singh Rathore, both from the BJP. “The BJP’s Mayor and Chairman are jointly building a new mountain of waste in Majlis Park. When I questioned them about it, they casually responded that it is being done under the Chief Minister’s new ‘CM Kooda Yojana’,” Ankush Narang said.
Slamming the BJP’s so-called ‘mega cleanliness drive,’ Narang said, “It’s a complete farce. CM Rekha Gupta, Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa, and Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh visit the older garbage hills just to click photos, while on the other hand, they’re quietly constructing a new waste mountain in Majlis Park. The BJP should be ashamed.” He announced that he would write letters to the Chief Minister, Minister, Mayor, and MCD Commissioner to demand the immediate removal of this fourth garbage mountain. “In just one month, this site has piled up waste 8 to 9 feet high. Is this what the BJP meant when it spoke about beautifying Delhi? AAP will raise this issue forcefully in the House,” he declared.
He further warned of the public health disaster this illegal dumping could trigger, particularly during the monsoon. “With the rains, vector-borne diseases will rise. The area is swarming with flies and mosquitoes. The stench and filth are unbearable. There is a real fear that the BJP might convert this dump into an illegal encroachment,” he cautioned.
Ankush Narang reminded reporters that during the AAP government’s tenure, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had cleared this site and proposed a park for the people of Adarsh Nagar, Burari, and Badli constituencies. “Now that park has been buried under a month’s worth of garbage,” he said.
Raising further concerns, Ankush Narang noted the proximity of the dump to the Outer Ring Road and the Metro station. “Is BJP planning to call this a museum and start charging entry fees? Will they declare it a heritage site under the ‘CM Kooda Yojana’? The garbage heap is visible from the Metro. Is this their idea of a ‘beautiful Delhi’?” he questioned.
Ankush Narang catches DJB truck dumping waste in Majlis Park
During the visit, Ankush Narang also caught a Delhi Jal Board (DJB) truck unloading garbage at the site. “The vehicle was filled with silt and waste. On questioning the driver, it was revealed that DJB trucks routinely dump garbage here,” he stated.
Ankush Narang concluded by holding the BJP fully responsible for turning residential neighbourhoods into garbage zones and warned that AAP would not allow this illegal and dangerous practice to go unchecked.
