With just three days to go until Holi, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has called out the BJP to fulfill its election promise of providing free LPG cylinders on Holi and Diwali. On Tuesday, the former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Delhi Assembly, Atishi, joined by women from across Delhi, publicly questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s credibility, holding posters that read, “₹2500 Rupees Turned Out to Be a Jumla—Will We Get Free Cylinders?”
Atishi slammed the BJP, stating that if this promise—like the ₹2500 monthly assistance for women—also proves false, it will reinforce public perception that PM Modi’s election guarantees are nothing more than “jumla” (empty rhetoric).
LoP in the Delhi Assembly Atishi, in a press conference at the party headquarters on Tuesday, pointed out the BJP betrayal of Delhi’s women. She stated that before the Delhi Assembly elections, the BJP and PM Narendra Modi made several promises, and women in the city voted for them, trusting their guarantees.
The Delhi Assembly LoP noted that the biggest assurance was that every woman in Delhi would receive the first installment of ₹2,500 in their accounts by March 8. March 8 has come and gone, but forget the first installment—registration for it hasn’t even started yet. “It is now clear that PM Modi’s guarantee of ₹2,500 for Delhi’s women was just a “jumla” (empty promise). Perhaps now, no one across the country will trust Modi’s election guarantees anymore,” Atishi remarked.
She further stated that, apart from the ₹2,500 allowance to women, the BJP also promised a free LPG cylinder on Holi and Diwali. “Holi is on March 14, just three days away. Women across Delhi are waiting for their free cylinders. Many are visiting AAP MLAs’ offices, asking when they will receive them. The BJP must answer: will every woman in Delhi get a free LPG cylinder on March 14, or is this yet another “jumla”?”
Atishi questioned whether the free cylinder promise would also turn out to be a “jumla” like the ₹2,500 guarantee. She highlighted that women from various parts of Delhi gathered at the AAP headquarters to demand answers from the BJP, CM Rekha Gupta, and PM Narendra Modi.
“Today, not just Delhi but the entire nation is watching the BJP. People want to know whether Modi’s guarantees are genuine or mere lies. The first guarantee—₹2,500 for women—has already proven false. Now, the nation is watching to see if the free cylinder promise will also turn out to be a “jumla”. If Delhi’s women do not receive free cylinders on Holi, it will confirm that PM Modi’s election guarantees are nothing but deception,” Atishi asserted.
Delhi Women Demand: Where is Our Free Cylinder?
Women from across Delhi gathered at the AAP headquarters carrying posters shaped like LPG cylinders. The posters read, ‘₹2,500 was a lie. Will we at least get the free cylinder?’ (originally in Hindi) Standing alongside former CM Atishi, the women demanded an answer from the BJP and PM Modi just days before Holi. “Will the BJP fulfill its promise of free cylinders, or is this yet another election jumla?” women asked.
