The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has called for the immediate resignation of BJP’s Lieutenant Governor (LG) after his false claims have been exposed in the High Court regarding the tragic mother-son drowning incident in Mayur Vihar.
AAP’s National Spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar slammed the LG for lying about the jurisdiction of the drain, proved to belong to the Delhi Development Authority (DDA), and criticized him for shielding guilty officers. “When he fails, he shifts blame on the AAP,” she declared, intensifying the party’s demand for accountability and justice.
Chief AAP Spokesperson (National) Priyanka Kakkar said, “A very tragic incident occurred in Mayur Vihar Phase 3, near a large drain in Ghazipur. The drain, 15 feet deep, was under the jurisdiction of the DDA, which was carrying out construction in the area. A 2.5-year-old child fell into the drain, and his 23-year-old mother, in an attempt to save him, also jumped in. Unfortunately, both tragically lost their lives. Our local MLA, Kuldeep Kumar, immediately rushed to the site upon receiving the news, called for a JCB, and had both bodies extracted.”
“MLA Kuldeep Kumar did everything within his capacity to help the bereaved family. He did not engage in any dirty politics, nor did he think about whether the drain was under DDA’s jurisdiction. He did everything possible for the affected family,” she added.
The Chief AAP Spokesperson continued, “On August 1st when no compensation was declared by LG Vinai Kumar Saxena, and he did not visit the accident site, our MP Sanjay Singh held a press conference, repeatedly questioning whether it was appropriate for the LG to continue in his constitutional position if he couldn’t stand with the people of Delhi during such tragic times, especially for an incident that occurred within DDA’s jurisdiction, which comes under him.”
“Following Sanjay Singh’s press conference, the BJP sent one of their petty spokespersons to the site, trying to show that the drain where the accident happened was under the jurisdiction of the PWD (Public Works Department) and not the DDA, thereby launching their petty politics. However, no compensation was announced, and the BJP did not stand with the affected family,” she added.
Priyanka Kakkar further added that on August 2nd, the LG remained silent. Our MLA Dilip Pandey then wrote him a letter, questioning why no action had been taken against the negligent officials involved. There was no response. On August 2nd, we also held a protest, demanding to know why the LG had remained silent, and why no compensation had been offered for this incident that took place within DDA’s jurisdiction.
The AAP Spokesperson mentioned that finally, on the evening of August 2nd, the LG’s office released a letter, which clearly shows that the LG is only focused on blaming and obstructing the work of the AAP government. He does not fulfil his responsibilities and tries to evade accountability.
Priyanka Kakkar said that in the letter LG Saab had said that Aam Aadmi Party and its leaders are lying, that drain does not belong to DDA. Is that why he did not get time to visit the spot? LG VK Saxena kept cursing AAP while sitting on a constitutional post because we raised the demand of giving compensation to the victim’s family.
The Chief AAP Spokesperson said, “When the matter eventually reached the High Court, then it became clear that the drain belongs to the DDA. The High Court strongly reprimanded the DDA officials, asking why there were no signboards, barricades, or warnings indicating that work was ongoing in such a 15-foot deep drain. The court questioned why there were no safety measures, even when a red alert had been issued on July 31st, a day before the accident.”
She shared, “This was an avoidable disaster, the result of DDA’s negligence, which falls under the LG’s jurisdiction. Two days ago, the High Court finally declared compensation for the bereaved family and ordered the DDA to pay.”
“This order of the High Court shows that the BJP repeatedly avoids doing its work and its LG only indulges in blame-game. If the AAP government does something good, the LG will rush to take credit, but when something goes wrong, they blame the AAP. Their only goal is to strip AAP of power while neglecting their responsibilities,” asserted Priyanka Kakkar.
“The LG Saab wants to snatch the powers of the AAP government but does not want to do his own work. LG is responsible for law and order in Delhi but he is more interested in defaming AAP than improving law and order and looking after DDA. He put many of our leaders in jail in fake cases. Now that it has been proved that this drain belongs to DDA, LG Saab should apologize for making false allegations against AAP and should resign from his post with immediate effect for his failure,” concluded Priyanka Kakkar.
