BJP’s “four-engine” govt is supplying contaminated water to Delhiites, pushing people into illness & despair: Saurabh Bharadwaj

Despite boasting a “four-engine government,” the BJP has failed to quench even Delhi’s most basic need — clean drinking water. The capital is in crisis, with widespread scarcity and contamination in household taps pushing residents to the brink. Since the BJP assumed power, Delhiites have been battling an unrelenting water emergency, but the administration remains unmoved.

On Tuesday, the National Green Tribunal (NGT) delivered a scathing indictment of the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) over the supply of polluted water — a rebuke that laid bare the utter incompetence of the BJP-led regime. The next day, public anger boiled over as enraged citizens surrounded DJB offices, chanting slogans against the government’s failure. “The BJP has completely failed to extinguish Delhi’s thirst,” declared AAP Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj, calling the situation a damning indictment of the BJP’s hollow governance.

Senior AAP leader and Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj on Wednesday stated, “It has been nearly four months since the BJP took power in Delhi, yet it has failed to resolve even the most basic need of the people—access to clean drinking water. A severe water crisis grips the entire city. Areas like Ambedkar Nagar, Deoli, Badarpur, Tughlakabad, Chhatarpur, Mehrauli, Bijwasan, Palam, Hari Nagar, Rajouri Garden, Greater Kailash, Janakpuri and many others are reeling under severe shortages. Even in parts of Greater Kailash, where residents never faced water issues before, supply has completely stopped.”

Highlighting the growing public anger, the AAP Delhi Unit Chief said, “Residents are protesting across the city, but the BJP government is unmoved. Ever since the BJP came to power, water has disappeared from taps. People are now gheraoing Delhi Jal Board (DJB) offices and raising slogans demanding clean and sufficient water from CM Rekha Gupta and her government. In South Delhi, residents who have been facing water shortages for days erupted in protest on Wednesday, gheraoed the DJB, and raised loud chants of ‘BJP Hai Hai’. Women have been resorting to matka phod demonstrations to express their anguish.”

He also exposed the BJP’s repeated falsehoods. “The BJP continues to lie that there is no water crisis and that clean water is reaching every home. If that were true, why would the NGT have to reprimand the Delhi Jal Board for supplying contaminated water? In Janakpuri, for days, the DJB has been supplying unsafe water, prompting local residents to file a formal complaint with the NGT. The NGT has now come down heavily on the DJB and directed it to fix the issue immediately.”

Saurabh Bharadwaj cited an alarming revelation: “A CPCB report has confirmed that taps in several homes in Janakpuri are dispensing contaminated water. Drinking this water puts people at serious risk of contracting diseases such as hepatitis, typhoid, jaundice and cholera. Both the NGT’s rebuke and the CPCB’s findings expose the utter failure of the BJP’s four-engine government.”

“Today, the situation in Delhi is such that people are desperate for even a few drops of water. They are staying awake through the night to collect water. In areas like Badarpur, water comes for a very limited time and residents have no option but to wait all night. On one hand, even a light rainfall floods the entire city; on the other, people are deprived of clean drinking water. Tanker supply has become a cruel joke—it is too little to meet even the minimum demand. Yet, the BJP shamelessly refuses to acknowledge the reality of the water crisis. The truth is clear: all four engines of the BJP government have failed miserably, and it is incapable of managing water in Delhi,” Saurabh Bharadwaj concluded.
