Delhi Chief Minister Atishi on Monday exposed that under pressure from the BJP and the LG, the Delhi Jal Board CEO was forced to downplay the severity of the Yamuna water crisis, but DJB’s official records expose the BJP’s conspiracy to supply poisonous water to Delhi.
CM Atishi revealed alarming data from the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) CEO’s report, which highlights dangerously high ammonia levels in the raw water supplied by Haryana—reaching up to 7.2 PPM, far exceeding the treatable limit of 1 PPM.
AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal shared a video message posted by CM Atishi on X. He wrote: “Listen to this video of Delhi CM Atishi ji on how BJP conspired to mix poison in the drinking water coming to Delhi from Haryana via Yamuna. There is no limit to their stoop. But I will not let any harm come to the people of Delhi. All of us Delhiites together will fail this conspiracy of BJP.”
In the video message, Delhi CM Atishi stated, “When AAP Convenor Arvind Kejriwal and I exposed the conspiracy by the BJP of sending poisonous water to Delhi, the BJP immediately used their LG to put pressure on Delhi government officials. Under this pressure, the Delhi Jal Board’s CEO was made to release a letter. They wanted to show that there is no issue, no conspiracy, and no poisonous water being supplied. However, the truth cannot be hidden.”
The Delhi Chief Minister continued, “The letter written by the CEO of the Delhi Jal Board clearly states that DJB’s water treatment plants can only treat water with up to 1 PPM ammonia. If needed, by diluting extra water, they can treat water with up to 2–2.5 PPM ammonia through dilution. But currently, the Yamuna River has 6.5 PPM ammonia, which is six times higher than the permissible limit.”
“This shows that the BJP government in Haryana is releasing poisonous water into the Yamuna River, sending toxic water to Delhi. This is what the letter from the Delhi Jal Board CEO clearly states,” she stated.
CM Atishi mentioned, “The data provided in the letter from January 21 to January 27 reveals ammonia levels reaching 5.5, 5.6, 5.8, 6.4, 6.8, and even 7.2 PPM. If water with only 1 PPM ammonia can be treated and supplied to the people of Delhi, water with 7 PPM ammonia is nothing less than poison.”
“The BJP has stooped so low in their desperation after realizing they are losing elections that they are now sending poisonous water to the people of Delhi. They are pressuring officials, but the truth is the truth. Today, the data released by the DJB CEO clearly shows that Haryana is sending toxic water to Delhi. Water with 1 PPM ammonia can be treated and made safe for Delhi’s residents, but water with 7 PPM ammonia is poisonous,” she asserted.
In conclusion, CM Atishi said, “The BJP government of Haryana is sending this poisonous water to the people of Delhi, and the evidence is now in front of everyone.”
What does this mean for Delhi?
High ammonia levels in drinking water are a public health disaster in the making. Ammonia can cause severe health issues, including kidney damage, respiratory distress, and even long-term organ damage. The people of Delhi are being subjected to unsafe water, directly threatening their lives and livelihoods because of BJP.
