Overflowing garbage, blocked drains, and filthy streets have become routine in Delhi under BJP’s rule. On Monday, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) held a sharp demonstration in Sangam Vihar, slamming the BJP-led MCD and Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh for the city’s deteriorating sanitation.
Led by AAP’s MCD Sah-Prabhari Praveen Deshmukh, the demonstration exposed the failure of BJP’s so-called ‘four-engine government’, which despite holding power at every level, has let the capital drown in trash. He reminded that under AAP’s MCD tenure, Delhi was cleaner and even garbage mountains had started to shrink.
Highlighting the worsening sanitation situation in Delhi, AAP’s MCD Sah-Prabhari Praveen Deshmukh stated, “Despite the BJP running a so-called ‘four-engine government’ in Delhi, garbage is piling up across the city. The sanitation system is in a terrible state. BJP might have formed the government in the MCD, but it does nothing when it comes to actual work.”
He continued, “If this government cannot even clean up the garbage in Delhi, what else can it be trusted to do? At present, trash heaps can be seen all over the city. There are no garbage collection vehicles in the Central Zone. Waste is lying unattended in front of people’s homes. This is what Delhi has been reduced to.”
Pointing to BJP’s tall claims about cleanliness drives, Praveen Deshmukh said, “They talk about a mega cleanliness campaign, but all its claims collapse the moment one sees piles of trash right outside people’s homes. If these heaps were lying in front of Mayor Raja Iqbal’s or Chief Minister Rekha Gupta’s residence, would they tolerate it? The people of Delhi will no longer tolerate this injustice by the government.”
Fact-checking BJP for taking credit for landfill reduction, he stated, “The BJP currently governs the MCD. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta recently visited the Okhla landfill site and made false claims that her government had reduced the garbage mountains. But in reality, since the BJP took over, trash heaps have only grown in front of people’s homes. The mayor was sworn in barely a month ago, and the Rekha Gupta-led government has been in power for just three months. For BJP to claim credit for reducing garbage mountains is entirely baseless.”
Reflecting on the previous administration’s efforts, he added that during its tenure in MCD, the Aam Aadmi Party had worked diligently to clean Delhi, and the visible reduction in the Okhla landfill mound was the result of that effort. It was made possible only because of ‘AAP’s’ hard work.
“But ever since the BJP came to power in Delhi, the entire city has been suffering. People are troubled by trash heaps everywhere. Not just AAP councillors, even BJP’s own councillors are frustrated with the garbage crisis. Yet, the BJP’s MCD government has completely failed to resolve it. The people of Delhi are fed up with this government that only makes lofty claims and does absolutely nothing on the ground,” concluded Praveen Deshmukh.
