The BJP’s deep-rooted anti-Dalit mindset has once again come to light in the functioning of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), where it has brazenly denied adequate representation to Dalit councillors in key Special and Ad-hoc Committees. On Friday, AAP’s Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the MCD, Ankush Narang, launched a scathing attack on the BJP, revealing that while the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) appointed 10 Dalit councillors as Chairpersons and Deputy Chairpersons to empower them to raise their community’s voice, the BJP gave token posts to just two or three.
MCD LoP Ankush Narang said, “The Aam Aadmi Party has always ensured that the Dalit community receives adequate representation so that their voices can be heard and their rights protected. Continuing that tradition, AAP has nominated five Dalit councillors as Chairpersons in the Special and Ad-hoc Committees of the MCD. In contrast, the BJP has appointed just one Dalit councillor as Chairperson—and that too only in the SC Committee, where it is mandatory by rule to appoint a Dalit. Had there been no such requirement, the BJP wouldn’t have even done that.”
Ankush Narang further said that whether it’s the matter of regularising Dalit employees or promoting Dalit teachers in the MCD, the BJP’s deep-seated anti-Dalit mindset has been repeatedly exposed. “AAP has appointed five Dalit councillors as Chairpersons in MCD’s Special and Ad-hoc Committees to amplify the voice of the community. The BJP, on the other hand, gave a chairperson post to just one Dalit councillor—and that too only because the SC Committee requires it. If the BJP wasn’t compelled by the rule, they wouldn’t have nominated a Dalit councillor even there.”
He added, “In total, the Aam Aadmi Party has appointed 10 Dalit councillors as Chairpersons and Deputy Chairpersons across various MCD committees. The BJP has only appointed two or three. This disparity once again exposes the BJP’s anti-Dalit agenda. The BJP has never worked to uplift the Dalit community or given them meaningful roles in governance. AAP, in contrast, has always ensured adequate representation to protect Dalit rights and empower them to speak up for their community.”
