The Aam Aadmi Party has (AAP) launched a citywide campaign against the BJP’s controversial school fee law, warning that it will empower private schools to hike fees arbitrarily while silencing parents. On Tuesday, AAP Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj initiated the drive by distributing pamphlets outside a prominent school in Sheikh Sarai-1, joined by MLA Jarnail Singh in Tilak Nagar and several councillors across different constituencies
AAP’s student wing—Association of Students for Alternative Politics (ASAP)—will now extend the campaign to every school gate, exposing a collusion between the BJP government and private school owners, and highlighting how the law lacks even a provision to roll back the fee hikes imposed this April.
While distributing pamphlets outside a private school in Sheikh Sarai, AAP Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj said, “The BJP government in Delhi has brought a law regarding private school fees. This law has been made completely in favour of private school owners. It is against the middle class and against parents. In protest, the Aam Aadmi Party has launched a campaign from Tuesday. As part of this campaign, a pamphlet has been prepared, printed in English on one side and in Hindi on the other. AAP is distributing this pamphlet to parents outside private schools in all Delhi Assembly constituencies.”
The AAP Delhi Unit Chief further stated, “We have chosen a school in Greater Kailash constituency. On Wednesday, we will take another school, and in the same way, this pamphlet will be distributed outside all major private schools to make parents aware. This campaign will continue until parents understand that the BJP government, in collusion with school owners, has made such a law under which parents will remain mute spectators while private schools will be able to arbitrarily increase fees every year. Recently, on April 1, the fees were increased, but this law has no provision to roll back that increase.”
At a press conference held at the AAP headquarters, Saurabh Bharadwaj said, “The BJP government has secretly passed this school fees law without any consultation or discussion with Parents’ Associations. This law has been imposed on the people of Delhi by the BJP government. Opposition parties repeatedly asked about the law, but the government gave no information. Even Parents’ Associations were not informed. The BJP government arbitrarily brought the law and got it passed in the Assembly.”
He pointed out, stating: “There are many flaws in this law, which the Aam Aadmi Party is continuously raising. Parents’ Associations have also been repeatedly seeking a meeting with CM Rekha Gupta, but no time has been given. They have also not been allowed to meet Education Minister Ashish Sood.”
Saurabh Bharadwaj further added, “To completely expose the BJP, AAP’s student wing ASAP has taken responsibility. From August 19, every day in every Assembly constituency in Delhi, ASAP will run an awareness campaign outside some private schools, distributing pamphlets to highlight the flaws of this law.”
“On Tuesday, this campaign was launched. In the morning, I was distributing pamphlets among parents outside Apeejay School in Sheikh Sarai. AAP Delhi Vice President and MLA Jarnail Singh distributed pamphlets outside a school in Tilak Nagar. Apart from this, several AAP councillors also distributed pamphlets among parents outside private schools in different constituencies. This campaign of the Aam Aadmi Party will continue,” affirmed the AAP Delhi Unit Chief.
