The BJP government in Delhi appears unwilling to confront its own electoral promise of granting ₹2,500 per month to women. On Friday, when AAP MLAs raised the issue in the Assembly, the ruling party reacted with fury, leading to their expulsion from the House.
In protest, Leader of Opposition (LoP) Atishi led AAP legislators in the Assembly premises, holding placards reading “₹2,500 Kab Aayenge?” and pointing out that PM Narendra Modi has betrayed women with false assurances. With the deadline of March 8 long past and no funds transferred, AAP asserts that BJP has no intention of honoring its commitment—exposing a “deliberate deception” by the ruling party.
Senior AAP leader and Delhi Assembly LoP Atishi has pointed out that the BJP has deceived the women of Delhi by failing to fulfill PM Narendra Modi’s promise of depositing ₹2,500 in their accounts by March 8. She stated, “PM Modi had assured Delhi’s women that they would receive a message confirming the credit of ₹2,500 on March 8. However, the date has passed, and not a single rupee has been deposited. The BJP-led Delhi government has completely failed to deliver on Modi’s commitment, exposing his false promises to the entire nation.”
The Delhi Assembly LoP further revealed, “When we questioned the BJP in the Delhi Assembly about the deposit of ₹2,500, they had no answer. Instead of providing clarity, the BJP refused to commit to a timeline. When our MLAs pressed for a date, they were expelled from the Assembly one by one. This blatant suppression of accountability proves that the BJP government neither transferred the promised amount to Delhi’s women on March 8 nor has any intention of doing so in the future.”
“The truth is now evident to both Delhi and the country—PM Modi misled Delhi’s women with empty rhetoric under the name of ‘Modi’s Guarantee’ and betrayed their trust,” she added.
To distract from its failure, Atishi said, the BJP is now indulging in debates over renaming places, “Since the BJP cannot provide ₹2,500 to women, it is talking about renaming Mustafabad. When it fails to provide free gas cylinders, it will bring up renaming Akbar Road. When it cannot fulfill its promise of 50,000 jobs, it will suggest renaming Humayun Road. And when it is unable to pay allowances to priests and granthis, it will shift focus to renaming Najafgarh. This diversionary tactic is designed to mislead the public and avoid discussions on real issues such as economic relief and employment.”
The Delhi Assembly asserted that the AAP, as a responsible opposition, will not allow the BJP to escape accountability, “We will continue to press the BJP-led Delhi government until it fulfills its promises—depositing ₹2,500 in the accounts of Delhi’s women, distributing free gas cylinders, providing 50,000 jobs, and ensuring that priests receive their ₹20,000 honorarium. The BJP cannot hide behind name-change gimmicks; it must answer to the people of Delhi.”
