A fiery clash unfolded in the Rajya Sabha on Friday, as Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh pointed towards the BJP’s ‘Anti-Dalit-Backward Class’ face, sparking outrage among BJP MPs. The uproar followed a private member bill introduced by Samajwadi Party MP Javed Ali Khan, calling for reservations based on population numbers for backward classes. The session ended in chaos, with the BJP MPs threatening legal action against Singh after he voiced his stance on his ‘X’ handle (erstwhile Twitter).
During the proceedings of the House in Rajya Sabha, AAP MP Sanjay Singh said that people from the ruling party and the opposition often tweet about the proceedings of this House. He stated, “One of our colleagues was participating in the House on the issue of OBC reservation based on population. The BJP people stopped him and the House was adjourned. I tweeted about it and the minister is getting angry. So many people are standing behind the minister and threatening me. But we are not going to be afraid of threats.”
The AAP Rajya Sabha MP said that the minister is threatening to send him to jail. “He is threatening to send me to jail in front of the Chairman. They (BJP) are saying that Sanjay Singh will be sent to jail. If you want to send me to jail, then do so. Who is afraid of jail? Who are these people threatening me with jail? You can send me to jail right from this House, but you cannot scare me with jail. The BJP government can send me to jail from here only. I strongly believe that the BJP is against Dalits, backward classes, and Adivasis (tribals).”
Earlier, the AAP Rajya Sabha MP AAP tweeted on his ‘X’ handle, stating, “The anti-backwards character of Modi government was exposed in Rajya Sabha. The BJP created a lot of ruckus on the private member bill of SP MP Javed Ali Khan to give reservations based on the number of backward classes and got the house adjourned. The BJP was always and will always be against backward classes, Dalits and Adivasis.”
