The return of “sealing raj” has begun in Delhi under the BJP’s rule. On Thursday, the BJP-led Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) sealed several shops in Chandni Chowk, prompting AAP Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj to warn traders and shopkeepers to stay alert. The AAP Delhi Unit Chief said the BJP’s government in Delhi has once again unleashed the terror of sealing, robbing dozens of workers and shop owners in the historic market of their livelihoods — just as it did years ago, when thousands were rendered jobless by similar actions.
Sharing the photos of sealed shops in Chandni Chowk surfaced on X, senior AAP leader and Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj said, “BJP came and sealing followed. Traders and shopkeepers should be prepared, because now the BJP has captured power from top to bottom. The new wave of shop sealings has begun. On Thursday, the BJP-ruled MCD sealed nearly 20 shops in Chandni Chowk.”
Raising serious questions about the legality of the action, the AAP Delhi Unit Chief asked, “Does the BJP’s MCD and Delhi government not know that this is a commercial area? Are they misleading the Indian court to get these shops sealed?”
Saurabh Bharadwaj reminded that during BJP’s previous tenure in the MCD, thousands of people lost their livelihoods. “From Defence Colony to Rajendra Nagar, shops across markets were sealed when the BJP was in power. That dark era has returned again,” he warned.
