The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has lambasted the Modi government for weaponising law to topple Opposition-ruled states, flagging that a new legislation to disqualify arrested leaders from office is nothing but a political tool to destabilise elected governments. AAP’s Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj said the BJP’s script is clear: “first they file false cases against Chief Ministers, then blackmail them, and if they refuse to bend, they are jailed and their governments are brought down.”
The AAP Delhi Unit Chief pointed out that Arvind Kejriwal had already foreseen this conspiracy, which is why after being released from jail he resigned as Chief Minister, defeating the BJP’s plan to break AAP.
AAP Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj said that the BJP’s conspiracy to topple Opposition governments is not new but has been continuing for many years. “Whenever such plots are hatched, Arvind Kejriwal is always the first person to understand them. He has repeatedly said in TV interviews that if he had resigned earlier, tomorrow these people would have fabricated false cases against every Opposition Chief Minister. Filing a case against Mamata Banerjee is no difficult task for them. They will frame a case, put her in jail, and then topple her government from behind the scenes. The same can be done against Stalin sahib. It is not difficult for them,” he said.
Saurabh Bharadwaj added that this is how the BJP intends to arrest senior Opposition leaders and bring down their governments. “But Arvind Kejriwal understood the law and decided not to resign. After coming out of jail, he resigned, because then things were in his control. Since the BJP now has no other route left, the Modi government is bringing a law under this conspiracy to topple Opposition governments in the same way,” he said.
Meanwhile, AAP’s Chief National Spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar said Arvind Kejriwal was jailed for six months without proof, without evidence, and without investigation, yet not a single piece of evidence could be produced in court. “Because there was nothing. The ED and CBI have been called caged parrots by the courts, and closure reports are being filed in every case. The BJP has begun to believe it is above the law. They want to eliminate the need for evidence altogether. Being guilty will no longer be necessary. Just put an elected Chief Minister in jail for 30 days, and under this new law, remove him from office on the 31st day. Then will they also shut down the courts?” she asked.
Priyanka Kakkar stressed that the BJP is desperately trying to dress up every illegal act in the garb of legality. “Modi ji has fallen from the hearts of the people. Everyone wants freedom from the BJP, but their greed for power is not ending. Earlier they indulged in the politics of buying and selling, now they have invented a new method to topple Opposition governments. The BJP’s politics is entirely negative. TDP and JDU will be the first to be targeted. They too must reflect deeply before extending support to this bill,” she said.
She further warned that if this bill passes, PM Modi will not need to face embarrassment on public platforms by exposing so-called scams worth ₹70,000 crore. “It must have been quite humiliating to accuse someone of a ₹70,000 crore scam, then induct that same person into the BJP and hand them the Finance Ministry. Once this bill is passed, even a small FIR will be enough. Either arrest, resign, or join the BJP. And PM Modi will no longer carry the stigma of inducting corrupt leaders into his party,” Priyanka Kakkar said.
