AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal, during a padyatra in the Karol Bagh, raised serious concerns about the worsening law and order situation in Delhi, on Sunday. Addressing a massive crowd, the AAP Convenor condemned the BJP-led central government for its failure to ensure safety for Delhi’s residents and vowed to unite the city in demanding better security measures.
The padyatra in Karol Bagh was a resounding success, with thousands of residents walking alongside Arvind Kejriwal through the streets of the constituency. The overwhelming response reflected the deep connection he has built with the people of Delhi through his governance and outreach efforts. Women warmly greeted him by applying tilak on his forehead, while elders showered their blessings, wishing him victory in his mission. The youth turned the occasion into a lively affair, clicking selfies with the AAP Convenor, collecting autographs, and enthusiastically engaging with him.
Speaking to the residents, Arvind Kejriwal said he has been receiving repeated complaints from residents about safety concerns. “I am deeply concerned about the deteriorating law and order situation in Delhi. From morning till evening, I roam around Delhi, meet people, and everywhere I go, people tell me the same thing—that they feel scared to even step out on the streets today,” he remarked.
Sharing an incident from the previous day, Arvind Kejriwal recounted, “Early yesterday morning, in Vishwas Nagar near Shahdara, a businessman went for a walk in the park. On his way back, two boys on a motorcycle shot him eight times and left him lying there. A little later, news came that someone had stabbed another person to death in Govindpuri. Just a week ago, a police constable was stabbed to death in the same locality.”
He highlighted the grim picture of the city, stating, “Everywhere you look in Delhi today, there are stabbings, hooliganism, and open gunfire. Isn’t this happening? Am I saying anything wrong? Don’t you feel scared to step out of your homes?”
Addressing the women in the crowd, Arvind Kejriwal asked, “So many mothers and sisters are present here. I want to ask you—do you not feel scared to leave your homes? When a daughter steps out, the parents’ hearts beat with fear—will she return safely or not?” He also highlighted the rising incidents of street crimes like phone and chain snatching, emphasizing the need for immediate action.
Reflecting on the achievements of his government, Arvind Kejriwal reminded the audience, “Ten years ago, you voted for me and made me Chief Minister. You said, ‘Kejriwal, fix the schools.’ I fixed the schools, didn’t I? You said, ‘Kejriwal, fix the hospitals.’ I made healthcare free for everyone, established Mohalla Clinics, and improved hospitals. You said, ‘Fix the electricity.’ Today, electricity is free & available for 24 hours a day, isn’t it? There are no power outages, and generators are no longer needed.”
He sharply criticized the BJP-led central government, which oversees Delhi Police. “The responsibility for law and order was given to the central government, to the BJP-led central government. They were tasked with ensuring law and order and providing security to the people of Delhi. But after ten years, they have ruined Delhi to such an extent that every individual is living in fear,” he said.
He expressed his belief that the situation would have been different if Delhi Police were under the jurisdiction of his government. “Delhi Police is not under my control; otherwise, the situation in Delhi would not have been this bad. Just as I fixed the schools, the hospitals, and the electricity, I would have fixed law and order too,” he asserted.
Arvind Kejriwal issued a call to action, urging Delhiites to unite against the prevailing lawlessness. “Now we need to raise our voices. All of us together must raise our voices. I will unite all of Delhi, and we will demand from these BJP leaders to provide security to Delhi!”
Concluding his speech, Arvind Kejriwal announced an upcoming initiative aimed at providing financial relief to women. “Very soon, a scheme will be launched under which thousands of rupees will be deposited directly into the accounts of women. It is coming very soon. So don’t worry about that,” he assured.
