Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)’s Chief Whip in the Delhi Assembly and MLA Sanjeev Jha, has written a strong letter to Speaker Vijender Gupta, expressing deep anguish over the blatant bias and unfair treatment meted out to AAP MLAs during the recently concluded Assembly session. In the letter, Sanjeev Jha has questioned the Speaker’s silence over repeated disruptions by BJP MLAs, while Opposition members were marshalled out without being given a chance to explain their stand.
In his letter, AAP’s Chief Whip in the Delhi Assembly and MLA Sanjeev Jha writes, “I am writing this letter to express my deep pain and anguish over being marshalled out again on the last day of the session on 9th January, 2026. Out of the five days the session was in effect, I was marshalled out and debarred from the session for four days, without even giving me a chance to explain my stand.”
Recalling the first day of the session, he explains that on January 5, 2026, AAP MLAs were seated inside the Assembly hall awaiting the LG, when Ambedkar Nagar MLA Ajay Dutt was denied entry into the House. Sanjeev Jha writes, “How can an Hon’ble MLA not be allowed inside the Assembly hall? Is he not a member of the Assembly?” He adds that when Opposition MLAs protested this arbitrary act, they were forcibly expelled for three days.
Highlighting the disproportionate punishment, he points out that although the Assembly session was initially planned for four days, four Opposition MLAs were expelled for three days. He raised serious questions about the justification and intent behind such action.
The AAP Chief Whip further notes that despite being the Chief Whip of the Opposition and having an officially approved office within the Assembly premises, he was stopped by security from entering the Assembly complex. “How can the security stop me from entering my own office? What kind of an example is the BJP trying to set here?” he asks in the letter.
Contrasting this treatment with the conduct of BJP MLAs, Sanjeev Jha writes that BJP legislators, including ministers, continuously disrupted the House on January 6, 7, and 8, wasting valuable Assembly time.
He records, “7th, the day started with all BJP MLAs protesting in the well in front of you (Speaker), they were holding placards and uttering disgraceful things about the former Delhi Chief Minister. No action was taken against them. Not a single BJP MLA was expelled for disrupting the assembly. Infact you kept on requesting them to remain silent, but the BJP MLAs were out of your control. They were not listening to you. Yet, you did not take any action.”
Referring to the circulation of fake video by BJP Minister Kapil Mishra targeting the Leader of Opposition (LoP), Sanjeev Jha asks pointedly, “A Minister with a ministerial rank circulating a fake video of another member who is also the former Delhi CM, isn’t this a matter fit for Privilege or is it being ignored because we are Opposition members?”
The letter also records that on January 8, BJP MLAs, including ministers, were again inside the well, and Minister Ashish Sood was seen writing placards for other BJP MLAs. Despite ample video footage being available on the Delhi Vidhan Sabha website, no action was taken against BJP members, while on January 9, AAP MLAs were once again marshalled out after protesting against the fake video.
Calling attention to public perception, Sanjeev Jha writes, “The people of Delhi are starting to feel that the BJP is afraid of AAP and the issues being raised by us. Therefore, the easiest way is to target and expel us at the first instance on some pretext or the other. On the other hand, the BJP MLAs that has completely gone out of hand inside the assembly walks scott free.”
Appealing directly to the constitutional role of the Speaker, he states, “The Speaker is above party lines and his office is a dignified constitutional office. You are the Speaker, a father-like figure , for both the BJP and the AAP. Rules should be uniform for everyone irrespective of the party otherwise the people of Delhi will think that there is biasness”
Concluding the letter with a firm appeal, Sanjeev Jha stated, “I feel that the AAP MLAs are unfairly being meted out with step fatherly treatment. I through you request the BJP not be afraid of AAP and hide behind your back. They should face us, only then the people of Delhi will start having faith in them
