AAP’s student wing, Association of Students for Alternative Politics (ASAP) held a fiery demonstration outside Delhi’s Shyam Lal College, slamming CM Rekha Gupta over the brutal rape and murder of a 9-year-old girl in Nehru Vihar. With the Chief Minister expected to visit the college, students raised sharp slogans demanding justice, immediate arrest of the culprits, and financial support for the victim’s family.
During the demonstration, ASAP reminded Rekha Gupta of her responsibilities as a woman Chief Minister. ASAP stated, “The Chief Minister of Delhi is a woman and also a mother. She ought to be concerned about the safety of every daughter in the city, but that concern is visibly missing. Women in Delhi had believed that with a woman in the highest office, they would finally feel safe. But that belief has shattered within just three months. Despite having a woman as Chief Minister, women and girls are still unable to breathe in a secure environment.”
Highlighting BJP’s complete control over Delhi’s governance, AAP’s student wing held them squarely responsible for the deteriorating law and order. ASAP said that Delhi today is governed by a four-engine BJP regime—at the Centre, in the state, in the MCD, and even the Lieutenant Governor (LG) is aligned with the BJP. The police and administration are entirely in BJP’s hands, yet criminals are operating without fear.
ASAP added, “The brutal incident involving a young girl in Nehru Vihar has shaken the conscience of the city. It has shown that women are not safe under BJP rule. The four-engine BJP government has failed completely in providing a secure environment in Delhi. We demand immediate justice for the victim’s family and the strictest possible punishment for the culprits.”
