As Delhi reels under an escalating water and electricity crisis, senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leaders—former Deputy CM Manish Sisodia, Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj, and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Delhi Assembly Atishi—met with party MLAs on Wednesday to assess the ground situation. Reports from legislators reveal a grim picture: not a single new water pipeline laid this year, acute water shortage across constituencies, and relentless power cuts plunging localities into chaos. With public distress mounting, AAP has announced that a delegation of its MLAs will soon seek an urgent meeting with CM Rekha Gupta to demand immediate action.
On Wednesday, AAP legislators met senior party leaders Manish Sisodia, Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj, and LoP Atishi. The meeting was convened to discuss the breakdown of public welfare services and the failure of the BJP’s four-engine government in Delhi to deliver on its promises over the past three months.
During the meeting, each MLA presented detailed reports on the halted development projects and growing civic issues in their constituencies. Manish Sisodia, who warmly reconnected with the legislators, stated, “It’s been a while since we all met. It felt great to meet everyone today. Let’s continue to meet regularly like this in the future.”
Manish Sisodia minced no words in condemning the BJP-led administration, calling it an “Vipda government” that has pushed Delhiites into suffering. “In just three months, the education mafia has taken over, and basic services like water and electricity have collapsed. BJP came to power through false promises, and not one of those promises has been fulfilled. Be the voice of the people who have fallen victim to this governance failure. Stay by their side in every situation and work to resolve their problems,” Sisodia urged the legislators.
The MLAs unanimously expressed deep concern over the deterioration of governance under the BJP government. They pointed out that after 27 years, Delhi’s people had placed their faith in the BJP, only to see their hopes crushed within three months of the party taking power.
They reported widespread, untimely power cuts across the capital. Amid extreme heat, the electricity outages have left residents distressed and scrambling to install inverters to cope. “The people are bearing the brunt of misgovernance during the peak summer season,” they said.
The legislators also highlighted the worsening water crisis. Despite BJP’s promise to ensure clean drinking water for all, multiple areas in Delhi are receiving contaminated water. Citizens are filing complaints with the Jal Board, but there’s no response. Several neighborhoods are facing acute shortages of potable water, forcing people to queue for hours for water tankers.
The city is also grappling with clogged sewers and overflowing drains. Several stormwater drains are blocked and spilling onto streets. Garbage collection has slowed to a halt, causing severe public inconvenience and hygiene concerns.
After hearing the legislators’ reports, Manish Sisodia remarked, “BJP has deceived the people of Delhi with false promises. In three months, they have failed to fulfill even a single commitment. This is the reason people’s problems are multiplying. In such a scenario, the responsibility of the AAP MLAs increases manifold. We must stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Delhiites and raise core issues like electricity, water, and sanitation with strength and determination.”
He urged all AAP MLAs to stay closely connected with their constituents. “Listen to their problems, solve them, and assure them that even outside of power, AAP will continue to fight for their rights. We will become the voice of the people – both on the streets and in the Assembly,” said Manish Sisodia.
Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj announced that a delegation of AAP legislators will soon seek a meeting with Chief Minister Rekha Gupta to raise the issue of Delhi’s water crisis.
Echoing the sentiment, LoP Atishi said, “The people are fed up with the four-engine BJP government and are longing for the return of the Kejriwal government.”
The meeting underscored a unified resolve within AAP to continue advocating for Delhi’s citizens amidst administrative collapse and to expose the BJP’s betrayal of its electoral promises.
