As Delhi grapples with prolonged power cuts under BJP rule, AAP MLAs, led by Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Delhi Assembly Atishi, stormed out of the Assembly on Tuesday, lambasting the BJP government for dismantling the capital’s once-reliable power system. Protesting outside, they demanded 24-hour electricity from CM Rekha Gupta, with Atishi slamming the BJP’s “Vipada” government for undoing a decade of uninterrupted supply under Arvind Kejriwal’s leadership.
Senior AAP leader and Delhi Assembly LoP, Atishi, has raised serious concerns over long, unscheduled power cuts occurring in different parts of Delhi in the month of March. She highlighted that areas such as Narela, Bawana, Rohini, Najafgarh, Karawal Nagar, and New Delhi, among others, are facing prolonged outages. Complaints of power cuts have also been surfacing on social media from Chhatarpur, Burari, Delhi University, and several other parts of the city.
The Delhi Assembly LoP noted, “For the past month, social media has been flooded with complaints about power cuts. Under the leadership of Arvind Kejriwal, the Aam Aadmi Party government provided uninterrupted 24-hour electricity to the people of Delhi for the past 10 years, without any power cuts. However, ever since the BJP took over, power supply in the city has been severely disrupted.”
She further pointed out that data presented by the BJP-led central government in the Rajya Sabha, along with reports from the Union Power Ministry, confirm that Delhi receives 24-hour electricity. “It has been merely 1.5 months since the BJP came to power in Delhi, and in this short time, they have already disrupted a well-functioning power supply system. Today, AAP MLAs Sanjeev Jha and Kuldeep Kumar have submitted a notice in the Delhi Assembly to discuss the issue of power cuts. We expect the Speaker of the Delhi Assembly to allow a discussion on this critical matter,” she added.
Atishi also addressed the issue of the CAG reports, demanding that the BJP present all reports in the Assembly. “We urge the BJP to table not just a single CAG report but all 10 reports in the Assembly. I find it ironic that the same BJP-led central government, which transfers auditors exposing corruption in Ayushman Bharat and Dwarka Expressway to Lakshadweep, Andaman & Nicobar, and Sikkim, has now developed newfound faith in the CAG report. We welcome the presentation of all 10 CAG reports in the Assembly,” she asserted.
AAP MLA Sanjeev Jha posted on X, stating, “I have requested the Hon’ble Speaker of the Delhi Assembly to allow a discussion in today’s session on the prolonged power outage in Jagatpur village, Burari, on March 28. This power cut caused severe inconvenience to the residents. I demand a response and a permanent solution from the Power Minister and the Delhi government to ensure such issues do not arise in the future.”
Meanwhile, AAP MLA Kuldeep Kumar posted on X, stating: “For 10 years under the AAP government, the people of Delhi received 24-hour electricity without power cuts. However, within just one month of the BJP government taking over, long power outages have started. This kind of electricity crisis even before the peak summer season is a serious concern, causing distress to Delhiites. I have submitted a suspension motion in the Assembly for discussion on this crucial issue, so the government is held accountable and an immediate solution is found.”
