The Delhi Assembly echoed with sharp protests on Wednesday as Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs took center stage, condemning the alarming state of law and order in the city. Chanting slogans against the BJP and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, AAP MLAs stormed into the well of the House before taking their agitation outside the assembly premises. Wielding placards with pointed messages, they demanded immediate accountability from Amit Shah.
Delhi Chief Minister Atishi highlighted the BJP-led central government’s utter failure in its responsibility to ensure the safety of Delhi’s citizens.
Chief Minister Atishi expressed deep concern over a tragic incident that occurred in Delhi on Wednesday morning, where three members of a family were brutally murdered in Neb Sarai. She remarked, “This is not the first instance of rising crime in Delhi. Today, no matter where you go in the city, gunshots can be heard, people are being openly stabbed to death, and drugs are being sold.”
CM Atishi further pointed out that in the past two months alone, two police officers have been killed in broad daylight. Criticizing the central government, she said, “The BJP-led central government has only one responsibility in Delhi: to ensure the safety of its citizens. However, it is now abundantly clear that the BJP-governed central government has completely failed to keep the people of Delhi safe.”
Meanwhile, AAP Delhi State Convenor and Cabinet Minister Gopal Rai expressed grave concern over the deteriorating law and order situation, stating that Delhi is rapidly becoming the “crime capital.” He remarked, “This morning, three members of a family were killed. Not a single day passes without reports of traders being shot at, women being victimized, or murders taking place.”
Highlighting the growing insecurity across the city, he said, “Every corner of Delhi is falling prey to crime at an alarming rate, leaving individuals feeling unsafe. Women no longer feel secure, and a sense of fear has gripped the trading community. Numerous incidents are being reported where anyone stepping out is at risk of being killed.”
Gopal Rai voiced his concerns about the increasing dominance of gangsters in Delhi, stating that it has sparked questions not only in the Assembly but also among the city’s residents: What should they do? He remarked, “The Delhi government lacks the necessary powers. Meanwhile, the Union Home Minister remains silent on the issue and refuses to speak up.”
He further said, “The BJP appears to believe this is not a matter of concern. With the rising incidents of murders and attacks on people in Delhi, if this isn’t an issue for BJP leaders, then where should the people of Delhi turn?”
Gopal Rai also highlighted that these issues have been raised in the Assembly for the past two years, yet no concrete action has been taken. “Who will take responsibility for the murders happening in the city? Why is the BJP not addressing this? Why is the BJP running away from accountability?” he questioned. He concluded by stating, “The BJP has completely failed in its responsibilities, and it must answer for this failure.”
Meanwhile, Senior AAP leader and MLA Kuldeep Kumar expressed deep concern over the worsening law and order situation in Delhi, calling it “a deeply distressing matter.” He stated, “Our mothers and sisters feel unsafe. Open any newspaper in Delhi today, and you’ll hear about incidents like someone being murdered, a person being stabbed to death in Naraina, a trader being shot at in his shop, traders being threatened and intimidated, elderly people being killed, and women being raped.”
Criticizing Home Minister Amit Shah’s silence on the issue, Kuldeep Kumar said, “Amit Shah remains silent on Delhi’s law and order. He doesn’t want to talk about it. We want to ask him: Amit Shah, give an answer. Why are you unable to ensure a safe environment for our daughters and mothers today? The people of Delhi entrusted you with this responsibility, and you have failed to fulfill it.”
Senior AAP leader and Tilak Nagar MLA Jarnail Singh stated that in Delhi, extortion demands are being made by firing bullets and carrying out shootouts in broad daylight. Murders and knife attacks are happening openly every day. Incidents of chain snatching, scooty theft, car theft, and robberies in homes have become very common incidents now.
Highlighting the deteriorating law and order situation in Delhi, the AAP MLA further stated, “Major crimes and serious incidents are occurring in Delhi every single day and the BJP-led central government and Union Home Minister Amit Shah has completely failed to ensure safety for Delhiites. The law and order situation in Delhi has completely collapsed, and Amit Shah must answer for this.”
Senior AAP leader and Wazirpur MLA, Rajesh Gupta, said that today there is an atmosphere of fear in Delhi. Every day, we see new gangsters emerging. People are proudly forming their own groups, openly threatening others, demanding ransom, committing atrocities, and in such a situation, the Union Home Minister is not giving any statement at all.
