Who ordered Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) employees into Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s rally? AAP MLA and Chief Whip in the Delhi Assembly Sanjeev Jha has written to Chief Minister Rekha Gupta demanding an inquiry, after Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh denied issuing any such order. Sanjeev Jha said Delhiites deserve to know under whose instructions employees were forced into buses and sent to the rally, and called for strict action against those responsible.
In his letter, AAP MLA and Chief Whip Sanjeev Jha stated, “On Sunday, 16th August, during the inauguration programme of UER-2 in Delhi and the Prime Minister’s rally, MCD sanitation workers and teachers were forcibly loaded into buses from various places under pressure from officials. When the employees sought clarification in this regard, the concerned officials informed them that the orders had come from above and that they had no independent will in the matter. This situation not only violates the rights of employees but also raises serious questions on the functioning of the administration.”
Raising concern over the dignity of employees, he continued, “MCD employees and teachers are appointed to serve the people. Forcing them to gather political crowds in this manner hurts their respect and the dignity of their duties. Today, I received information through several news media reports that Delhi Mayor Raja Iqbal has clearly stated that MCD did not issue any such order. If this fact is true, then the question becomes even more serious — at whose level and on whose instructions were these orders issued? When the head of the MCD himself is unaware of the order, this directly proves misuse of power and a failure of administrative transparency.”
Calling it a violation of democratic and human rights, Sanjeev Jha said, “This entire episode is not just administrative negligence but an open violation of the democratic and human rights of employees. Such acts not only tarnish the credibility of institutions like the Delhi government and the Municipal Corporation but also send a message to the public that employees are being diverted from their real duties and used for political purposes. This is extremely unfortunate and unacceptable.”
Demanding immediate action, he asserted, “The Aam Aadmi Party expects you to immediately conduct a high-level and impartial inquiry into this matter so that it can be clarified under whose instructions the orders were issued, and strict action be taken against the guilty officers and individuals concerned. Along with this, it must be ensured in future that employees are not misused in this manner and the practice of forcing them into political programmes is completely stopped.”
Sanjeev Jha said, “We believe that the Chief Minister will take cognisance of this serious matter and will soon take appropriate steps to safeguard democratic norms and administrative transparency.”
