As Punjab battles devastating floods, senior AAP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh hit out at PM Narendra Modi and the BJP for showing apathy. After visiting affected areas, he said the AAP government under CM Bhagwant Mann is working day and night, but the Centre is treating Punjab step-motherly. He added that Punjabis, known for running langars worldwide, are braving dangers to help their own, while AAP workers, on Arvind Kejriwal’s appeal, are fully engaged in relief efforts. He urged PM Modi, stating, “You can take all the reports you want later, but first give Punjab a relief package.””
After visiting the flood-affected areas of Punjab, Senior AAP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh stated, “All along the way, there is water everywhere and flood-like conditions. People are forced to live on the rooftops of their houses. Their belongings, homes, crops, cattle, and livestock have all been damaged. The Punjab government is fully helping them. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, his ministers, MLAs, and the entire government are working day and night. Every worker of the Aam Aadmi Party is engaged in helping people. On the appeal of our National Convener Arvind Kejriwal, AAP workers from outside have also joined the relief efforts.”
Emphasising Punjab’s legacy of service, he emphasised, “Punjab is that state which has always helped people across the world. Whenever there has been a national disaster anywhere — whether an earthquake or famine — Punjab has run langars. Today, when Punjab itself is in need, everyone should come here and extend their support. Our demand is that the Modi government should immediately provide the relief package that has been sought for Punjab by CM Bhagwant Mann.”
Pointing to the lack of urgency, Sanjay Singh said, “On Thursday, Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan came here. He inspected the areas and went back, but no announcement has been made till now. There is no benefit in delaying further. The Modi government must now announce a relief package for Punjab.”
Questioning the repeated talk of reports, the Rajya Sabha MP said, “What report needs to be made now? How many more days will it take? Our MLAs have been stationed here for so many days. The condition of villagers is very bad. People are suffering immensely. Today we have so much technology, and news about floods in Punjab is being broadcast everywhere. Can PM Modi, his ministers, or the Governor not see all this? With open eyes and available technology, everything is clearly visible. Now only one thing remains — the announcement of help.”
