The AAP government in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) has given a timely Diwali gift to 600 contractual sanitation workers and their families by regularizing their jobs on Wednesday. The beneficiaries were handed over their certificates today at the MCD Civic Center where Delhi CM Atishi represented AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal, who was unable to attend due to a prior commitment. Owing to his absence, Arvind Kejriwal wrote a letter to MCD Mayor Dr. Shelly Oberoi expressed regret for not attending the event and extended his congratulations to the newly regularized sanitation workers and their families.
In his letter to Mayor Dr. Shelly Oberoi, AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal conveyed his congratulations to more than 600 sanitation workers on their regularization. He remarked, “On the occasion of Diwali, what greater news could their families receive than this? We have already regularized thousands of such contract workers.”
Arvind Kejriwal further stated, “Due to prior commitments, I am unable to attend today’s event, and I apologize for this. Since our government took charge of MCD, sanitation workers now receive their salaries in the first week of every month. Earlier, these poor workers went months without pay and had to stage protests just to receive their due wages. Now, they get their salaries on time every month.”
He also emphasized that, because of these efforts, sanitation workers, particularly from the Valmiki community, wholeheartedly bless the AAP government. “The blessings of the underprivileged are our true wealth,” he added.
Arvind Kejriwal further mentioned the challenges faced during his time in jail, noting how the opposition political party caused numerous problems for Delhi’s residents. “They halted various services, and people approached me to share their grievances. I am addressing each issue one by one. This year, the Mayor in MCD was supposed to be from the Scheduled Caste (SC) community, but I discovered after leaving jail that they hatched a conspiracy and didn’t allow the Mayor’s election to take place. They deliberately deprived the SC community of their rightful position, which is completely unacceptable.”
In conclusion, Arvind Kejriwal urged Mayor Dr. Shelly Oberoi to immediately conduct the Mayor’s election and ensure that the SC community receives their due rights.
