The Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) government in Punjab is making every possible effort to bridge the gap in Minimum Support Prices (MSP) for rice and other crops and to prevent stubble burning in the state. The Bhagwant Mann government in Punjab is compensating farmers to prevent stubble burning. The Punjab government under the AAP has offered the Central Government to eliminate the difference in MSP for crops and to control stubble burning in the state.
AAP’s National General Secretary Organization and Rajya MP Dr. Sandeep Pathak questioned the Central Government regarding stubble burning and MSP, in the Rajya Sabha on Thursday.
Dr. Sandeep Pathak posed these questions to the Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Bhupender Yadav, in the Rajya Sabha. He said, “Whenever pollution and stubble burning are discussed, farmers are always questioned. I believe no farmer in the country wants to burn stubble themselves. When they burn stubble, the first and most significant loss is suffered by them and their families. It’s the responsibility of all governments to find a solution to this problem. I ask you to compensate farmers to prevent stubble burning is highly necessary. This is a way to prevent stubble burning. The Punjab government has offered to compensate farmers with ₹1000 per acre to prevent stubble burning. If the central government also provides ₹1500 per acre, it will be a sufficient amount and a very good effort. Is the central government ready for this, and what efforts are they making in this regard?”
The Rajya Sabha MP while asking the second question, said that if we want to find a long-term and sustainable solution to prevent stubble burning, Crop Diversification is a very fundamental parameter. The most important thing for crop diversification is whether farmers get adequate MSP (Minimum Support Price), and if they do, what is the difference in MSP for rice? The Punjab government has offered the central government that the difference in MSP for rice and other crops will be compensated by the Punjab government. Is the central government ready for this? Will the central government implement this in the current session?
