The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Tuesday exposed the hollow implementation of Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP)-4 in Delhi, highlighting that even as pollution levels remain at alarming highs, construction work continues unchecked in the constituencies of BJP government ministers.
Taking to X, AAP Delhi state President Saurabh Bharadwaj shared a video showing ongoing construction activity, calling out the BJP government’s lack of seriousness in tackling pollution. He said that the GRAP-4 is sheer nonsense. On paper, GRAP-4 has been implemented, but on the ground the action is zero. “Look at the constituency of Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa. Even the government contractor has not stopped the work,” he pointed out.
Saurabh Bharadwaj shared a video of an inspection conducted by AAP MLA Jarnail Singh, who visited the constituency of Environment Minister Manjinder Singh Sirsa and found construction work continuing despite the implementation of GRAP-4.
Jarnail Singh strongly objected to the large-scale construction activity taking place inside a building. He also spoke to the workers present there and said, “Pollution in Delhi is at its peak. In the constituencies of senior ministers of the Delhi government, construction work is going on openly. Along with private construction, government construction work is also continuing.”
Jarnail Singh said, “If such open construction work continues even after GRAP-4 has been imposed, how will pollution ever be reduced?” He added that “commercial vehicles are also moving freely in Delhi, and police personnel are taking money and openly allowing banned vehicles to enter the city.”
The AAP MLA continued to highlight that even after the implementation of GRAP-4, restrictions on construction activities are not being enforced.“GRAP restrictions were imposed to reduce pollution. Merely completing formalities will not reduce Delhi’s pollution, nor will it bring down AQI levels,” he stated.
Jarnail Singh urged CM Rekha Gupta and the Environment Minister to pay attention and strictly implement GRAP to reduce pollution in Delhi, adding, “Pollution will not come down just by talking.
