Senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and Burari MLA Sanjeev Jha on Friday exposed the BJP government’s hollow claims of grand Chhath Puja preparations after inspecting Ramghat in Wazirabad. He revealed that despite boasting about grand celebrations, the BJP hasn’t even ensured basic cleanliness at the ghats. With just days left for the festival, Ramghat lies in a filthy state — foul-smelling water, plastic waste, and scattered puja material everywhere. “BJP has nothing to do with faith; it’s only interested in ‘dhanda’. If there weren’t elections in Bihar, they wouldn’t even be here making reels,” he said.
Inspecting the preparations for Chhath Puja at Ramghat in Wazirabad on Friday, AAP MLA Sanjeev Jha stated, “BJP leaders are busy making and circulating reels and going on boat rides, while there is filth all around Ramghat. This morning, BJP Members of Parliament came here, got their pictures clicked, and left. They didn’t notice the dirt and stench because all they care about is getting the perfect photo and the perfect reel that can go viral. Whether devotees are able to perform their puja or not makes no difference to BJP leaders. People are saying they feel ashamed looking at this filth, but the BJP leaders seem to have no shame at all.”
Pointing to the state of the Yamuna, Sanjeev Jha said, “The BJP leaders who are propagating reels about cleaning the Yamuna are now being exposed by the very filth visible here today. There is a temple right in front, and Ramghat is one of the oldest ghats. Not just Chhath Puja, but other religious rituals such as ‘shraadh karm’, ‘tarpan’, and various Vedic ceremonies take place here. Yet, the situation here is deplorable. I hope BJP leaders gain some wisdom, stop making reels, and actually come here to work. Clean this place properly. There is a foul smell, flies are buzzing everywhere—how are people even supposed to stand here?”
He added, “This filth is a reflection of the BJP leaders’ dirty intentions, and it is the devotees performing the puja or entering the water who will suffer because of it. I also urge the Divisional Commissioner to visit the site personally and take corrective action. Every Delhi resident is aware of the condition of the Yamuna. Foam continues to appear at Kalindi Kunj, and even today the river is as polluted as it was when the BJP used to boast about cleaning it.”
The AAP MLA asked, “What exactly have they done? Why are they lying about cleaning the Yamuna? The public will no longer fall for their lies—they know the truth. If the BJP leaders have even a shred of shame left, they should stop making reels and ensure that officials properly manage the ghats so that devotees can perform their puja peacefully.”
Commenting on the number of model ghats being prepared, he further added, “The Chief Minister has said in her press conference that 12 model ghats are being developed for a grand celebration. But earlier, there used to be 70 model ghats—one in every assembly constituency. Now instead of 70 locations, the BJP is organising puja at just 12, and still calling it a grand event? I believe they are intoxicated with the arrogance of power and have forgotten their promises to the people of Delhi. They are dismantling the welfare measures that existed during Arvind Kejriwal’s tenure, and today the people of Delhi are in distress.”
Sanjeev Jha asserted, “The BJP leaders are making reels only because elections are close in Bihar. If there were no elections, they wouldn’t even bother coming here to make reels. They are calling the organisers and asking them to vote for the BJP in Bihar. They have nothing to do with Chhath or any religion. Whenever there’s an opportunity for political gain, they invoke religion. These reels are being made only to send a message to Bihar. But I sincerely hope and pray to Chhathi Maiya that she gives them wisdom so that they at least refrain from indulging in dirty politics during her worship and festivities.”
