The monsoon’s last spell exposed the BJP’s so-called ‘four-engine government’ in Delhi, leaving the city waterlogged even on Durga Ashtami. As Ramleela preparations were thrown into chaos, AAP Delhi unit president Saurabh Bharadwaj called out the BJP saying even Ravana was so ashamed of their mismanagement that he drowned in the waterlogging and committed suicide.
Posting a video, AAP Delhi unit president Saurabh Bharadwaj stated, “Look at the work of Phulera ki Panchayat. In Shalimar Bagh, the constituency of CM Rekha Gupta, the Ramleela ground was submerged with just a little rainfall. Contracts worth crores of rupees were awarded in the name of desilting drains. Yet, even after that, Delhi’s condition in the rains has been terrible. Despite orders from the High Court, the government is running away from third-party audits of desilting.”
He stated, “On Tuesday, even after a short spell of rain, the Ramleela venue in Rajouri Garden got flooded. The entire ground was filled with water. During this, the tall effigy of Ravana fell to the ground after breaking. This is the direct result of the mismanagement of the BJP government, that even Ravana started drowning. In Shalimar Bagh constituency too, the Ramleela ground was waterlogged. Rekha Gupta, the Chief Minister of Delhi, has been elected from this very constituency. Yet due to the lack of proper drainage management, the Ramleela celebrations were disrupted.”
Highlighting corruption in desilting, Saurabh Bharadwaj said, “This year, in every spell of rain, there has been heavy waterlogging across Delhi. This happened because the BJP government did not carry out desilting of drains. The BJP government only indulged in corruption worth crores of rupees in the name of desilting, and today the people of Delhi are paying the price for it.”
“The BJP government repeatedly claims to have carried out desilting, but it is evading third-party audits of the process. Even the court has ordered third-party audits of drain desilting. Yet the government is not conducting any audit. After all, what does the government want to hide by not allowing a third-party audit of desilting? The people of Delhi are waiting for the answer to this question,” he said.
Saurabh Bharadwaj also shared a video from Mehrauli showing a man drowning in floodwater. He wrote: “A very heart-wrenching video has emerged from Delhi’s Mehrauli of a man being swept away in the floodwater. It is unclear whether this man was rescued or not.”
