The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) lambasted the BJP-led Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Government over its mishandling of Delhi’s worsening health crisis. On Friday, AAP councillors, led by MCD Leader of Opposition (LoP) Ankush Narang, stormed the House draped in mosquito nets, highlighting the BJP Government’s complete failure to curb the surge of dengue, malaria and chikungunya.
Amid loud sloganeering, Ankush Narang warned that even the MCD chamber has not been spared from the mosquito menace, demanding immediate action to protect Delhiites from the unchecked spread of these deadly seasonal diseases.
MCD LoP Ankush Narang said the BJP government has so far failed to take any concrete steps to prevent these seasonal diseases and has not even initiated a public awareness campaign to help citizens protect themselves. “The Aam Aadmi Party wants a serious discussion on this grave issue inside the House, but the BJP government is not even willing to engage,” AnkushNarang said, adding that AAP will continue to raise the voice of Delhiites strongly both inside the House and on the streets.
Highlighting the alarming spike in cases, Ankush Narang revealed that malaria has already recorded 333 cases in 2025, breaking all records of the past five years. Cases of chikungunya are also at their highest in five years, while dengue is spreading at an equally dangerous pace. “Delhi is witnessing a rapid rise in malaria, chikungunya and dengue, but the BJP has no concrete action plan to fight these diseases,” he charged.
Recalling the preventive measures taken by the AAP government under former CM Arvind Kejriwal, Ankush Narang said, “When Arvind Kejriwal was Chief Minister, the Delhi government ran a highly successful campaign—10 weeks, 10 Sundays, 10 minutes at 10 am—to spread awareness and encourage citizens to clean stagnant water to prevent mosquito breeding. Instead of supporting this visionary campaign, BJP leaders mocked it. Yet, it helped people understand how to protect themselves and control these diseases.”
Ankush Narang slammed the current BJP Government for not running any such public health campaign and for failing to ensure proper treatment in hospitals under the Centre, Delhi government and MCD. “If Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh cannot even make his own Civic Centre mosquito-free, how will he protect the entire city from malaria, dengue and chikungunya?” Ankush Narang asked.
Citing ground realities, Ankush Narang pointed to the Civil Lines Zone, including areas like Jahangirpuri from where Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh himself hails, as hotspots of daily dengue and malaria cases. “If the Mayor cannot control seasonal diseases in his own ward or zone, how can Delhiites expect him to stop the surge across the city?” he said.
Exposing the BJP’s so-called “mega cleaning drive,” Narang ridiculed the videos of CM Rekha Gupta and Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh throwing garbage on already clean streets only to later clean it for the cameras. “The reality is entirely different. In the Mayor’s own zone—Majlis Park, Nirankari Ground in Burari, Ramghat in Wazirabad, and Kadi Pur—garbage is piled up on every street, road and crossing. Where there were once five garbage tippers, now only one operates. MCD garbage trucks run with silencers tied with ropes and need to be push-started. The Mayor and the BJP have completely failed to clear the city’s waste,” Ankush Narang charged.
He further revealed that even MCD’s own Commissioner has admitted to the financial mess, stating that the Corporation cannot pay full dues to concessionaires. “Instead of paying ₹90 crore, they are forced to pay only ₹70 crore. The BJP’s four-engine government cannot pay contractors and cannot remove garbage. They celebrate Prime Minister Modi’s birthday with ‘Seva Pakhwada’ and cleanliness campaigns, but in reality they have given Delhi’s garbage freedom to spread across the streets. Under the BJP, Delhi has been turned into a dumping ground,” Ankush Narang said.
The Aam Aadmi Party reaffirmed its commitment to continue exposing the BJP’s failures and fighting for the health, safety and dignity of every Delhiite.
