In a landmark move that sets a global precedent, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab has announced a ₹10 lakh ‘Mukhyamantri Swasthya Card’ for every citizen, ensuring free and quality treatment. The announcement by CM Bhagwant Mann was hailed as historic by AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab Prabhari Manish Sisodia, who underlined that Punjab is now the only state in the world to offer such extensive health coverage. The AAP Chief declared that while earlier governments allowed leaders to pocket public money, Punjab today has a people’s government that spends every rupee on the people.
AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal, praising the AAP government’s decision on X, wrote: “AAP government’s Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann has made a historic announcement on Monday. Not just in India, but Punjab has become the first state in the world to provide its citizens with free health cover worth ₹10 lakh. Only an honest government can provide such facilities to the people. In the past, leaders of previous governments would loot public money instead of spending it on citizens. Now, Punjab has a people’s government that spends the people’s money only on the people.”
Punjab Prabhari Manish Sisodia also welcomed the announcement on X, remarking, “Now no family in Punjab will be broken by the burden of medical treatment. No parent will need to take loans for their child’s medicines, and no elderly will live in fear of hospital expenses. The ₹10 lakh Chief Minister Health Card will become a shield of protection for every household and guarantee every Punjabi free and better treatment. This historic initiative of the Bhagwant Mann government will set an example for the entire country. This is true service, this is the hallmark of an honest government.”
It is noteworthy that on Monday, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann held a press conference to give details of the Mukhyamantri Swasthya Card Yojana. He announced that to ensure comprehensive health facilities for the people of Punjab, a health card worth ₹10 lakh would be issued to every citizen. From tomorrow, registration will begin in the first phase in Barnala and Tarn Taran districts. Under this card, every citizen of Punjab will receive free and quality treatment covering 2,000 health services. The scheme will not only include all government hospitals but will also empanel a large number of private hospitals to provide treatment under it.
