The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday tore into the BJP government over the deepening water crisis in various parts of Delhi. AAP Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj posted a video from Dwarka showing large crowds of middle-class residents protesting against the acute shortage of drinking water. Saurabh Bharadwaj said the situation had become so dire that even the city’s working middle class was now being forced to take to the streets for water. For weeks, Dwarka’s housing societies have been grappling with a severe crisis, he noted, adding that fee hikes, power cuts, and water scarcity have made daily life unbearable, turning the BJP government into a constant headache for the middle class.
In a post on X, AAP Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj stated, “Today, Delhi’s middle class is on the streets for water. Such a sight is seldom seen—that the city’s working middle class is forced to come out on the roads, raise slogans, and agitate for drinking water. For weeks now, Dwarka has been facing an acute drinking water crisis. Let me remind you, it was Arvind Kejriwal’s government that first ensured piped water supply to Dwarka societies. Before that, residents had no option but to buy water from tankers or make do with the brackish supply from tubewells. Even posh localities like Vasant Kunj and Janakpuri are suffering badly from water shortages.”
Saurabh Bharadwaj added, “The BJP often used to ask what Arvind Kejriwal has done for the middle class. But ever since the BJP government came, private schools have arbitrarily hiked fees, power cuts have become rampant, waterlogging has broken all records, and now every day people are struggling with water and sewer problems. For the middle class, this BJP government has become nothing less than a chronic headache.”
