The Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) student wing Association of Students for Alternative Politics (ASAP) on Tuesday hit the streets with a Metro Concession March, demanding fare relief for students. From Motilal Nehru College to ARSD College, the march led by former MLA Vinay Mishra saw students voice their anger over rising metro fares. MLA Sanjeev Jha said ASAP has been consistently demanding concessions, while students reminded that BJP’s pre-poll promise of metro passes has turned out to be a complete lie.
Senior AP leader and Burari MLA Sanjeev Jha stated, “Today, from Motilal Nehru College to Atma Ram Sanatan Dharma (ARSD) College, the student wing of AAP, Association of Students for Alternative Politics (ASAP), led a Metro Concession March. ASAP has been continuously engaging with the administration on the demand for metro fare concessions. During this march, students submitted a memorandum to the administration, stating that students studying at Delhi University are facing severe difficulties because of the increased metro fares, which have made travel unaffordable. ASAP has been consistently raising the issue of metro fares.”
Pointing to BJP’s broken promises, AAP’s student wing ASAP stated, “Before the elections, BJP had promised students a metro pass, but that promise turned out to be false. The recent hike in metro fares has made this even clearer. We demand that students be given at least 50% concession on metro fares, because students are the future of the nation and in 15 years, these very students will be the ones running the country. Therefore, the Delhi government must invest in building the future of students.”
Highlighting the significance of University of Delhi, ASAP stated, “University of Delhi is recognised globally, and students from across the country come here to study. The government must understand the seriousness of this. The sudden increase in fares has placed a heavy burden on students. AAP has been raising this issue for a long time, but BJP has betrayed students by increasing metro fares. This betrayal of the youth will not be tolerated. Whether the hike is minor or massive, BJP’s promise was false. AAP and ASAP will continue their movement, standing in solidarity with students, to demand metro passes.”
Sanjeev Jha said, “This march was led by former AAP MLA from Dwarka, Vinay Mishra. AAP leader Joginder Solanki and all Delhi office-bearers of ASAP were present, including ASAP Delhi in-charge Devendra, co-incharge Rahul Rai, president Kuldeep Bidhuri, along with other student leaders.”
