Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Delhi Assembly, Atishi, has written a letter to Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, flagging the alarming water crisis in several parts of the national capital. She highlighted that despite an unprecedented monsoon, people in many areas are struggling daily for water, raising serious concerns about the preparedness and efficiency of the BJP-led government and the Delhi Jal Board (DJB).
In her letter, Delhi Assembly LoP Atishi stated, “I am writing to draw your urgent attention to the alarming water crisis being faced by residents in several parts of Delhi. Many densely populated areas in Delhi including Kalkaji, Badarpur, Okhla, many parts of South and Central Delhi have been facing severe water scarcity for unknown reasons.”
The Delhi Assembly LoP pointed out, stating: “Shockingly, Delhi is facing water shortage when there is an unprecedented monsoon season at the moment. Despite abundant rains, people of Delhi are struggling daily for water. When on one hand the entire Delhi is submerged in water, on the other taps are running dry in the national capital.”
She noted, “This situation raises serious questions about the preparedness and efficiency of the BJP-led government and the Delhi Jal Board. If this is the situation during a season of heavy rainfall, then one shudders to imagine the plight that Delhi will face during the next summers. It is now almost 6 months since your government has taken charge of the Delhi Jal Board. There can be no excuses and blame game from your Government now.”
Addressing CM Rekha Gupta, Atishi stated, “Yesterday itself you were with the Prime Minister and Chief Minister of Haryana. How is it that BJP has a 4-engine government, as well as governments in all neighbouring states and still the people of Delhi are struggling for water! It seems that the people of Delhi are suffering because they have reposed their faith in the BJP.”
Atishi emphasised that with six months in power and full control over the Delhi Jal Board, the BJP government cannot hide behind excuses or indulge in blame-shifting. She demanded urgent corrective action, warning that if this is the condition during a season of heavy rainfall, the coming summer could spell disaster for the people of Delhi.
Sharing a copy of the letter on her X handle, Delhi Assembly LoP Atishi wrote: “People in Delhi are struggling with a water shortage. In many areas of Kalkaji, Badarpur, and South-Central Delhi, taps have run dry. The streets are filled with water, but there is no water in the taps. This is the reality of the BJP government’s mismanagement. If this is the situation during the monsoon, what will happen in the summer? The four-engine government has proven to be a failure on every front.”
