Despite written complaints from 40 doctors, no FIR has been registered against BJP MLA Harish Khurana for allegedly assaulting a doctor at Acharya Shree Bhikshu Hospital. With the Delhi Police yet to act, AAP Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj and MLA and AAP’s Chief Whip Sanjeev Jha have sought meetings with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the Police Commissioner, noting that the authorities are shielding the MLA and stonewalling their repeated requests for an appointment since Thursday.AAP Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj said, “The assault on a government hospital intern doctor by BJP MLA Harish Khurana and his supporters is shameful. On the one hand, when an attempt was made to attack Delhi’s Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the police promptly arrested the accused, put him on five-day remand, and booked him under attempt to murder charges. But on the other hand, when a BJP legislator assaults a doctor, no FIR has been registered till date.”Saurabh Bharadwaj further pointed out that after the RG Kar Medical College incident in Kolkata, a nationwide consensus had been reached that in such cases, hospitals—not individual doctors—would file institutional FIRs. “Why has the Medical Superintendent not filed an institutional FIR yet? Over 40 doctors have submitted written complaints against Harish Khurana. Yet, the BJP and its government are standing by their MLA, not by the doctors. The Aam Aadmi Party has sought time with the Police Commissioner and also with the Union Home Minister. We will meet them to ensure that an FIR is registered against Harish Khurana,” he added.Meanwhile, Burari MLA and AAP’s Chief Whip Sanjeev Jha also raised the matter with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in a formal letter. He wrote that on August 21, inside Acharya Bhikshu Hospital, BJP MLA Harish Khurana misbehaved with and physically assaulted doctors on duty.“This incident has caused deep anger among the doctors of the hospital. They have lodged a formal complaint, demanded an FIR, and expressed grave concern about their safety. Doctors are a vital part of our society, constantly serving patients and working for public welfare. Such behaviour towards them is not only disgraceful but also sends a dangerous message to society. After the recent RG Kar Medical College incident in Kolkata, doctors across the country went on strike to demand security. That episode showed us all that ensuring the safety of doctors has become a national necessity,” Sanjeev Jha stated. He stressed that what makes the Delhi incident even more alarming is that it was carried out not by an ordinary individual but by an elected representative. “If elected representatives themselves indulge in such behaviour, it raises serious questions about our democracy and law and order. Various doctors’ associations have also demanded strict action,” he added.Sanjeev Jha urged the Union Home Minister to take impartial and strict action against the guilty MLA. “An FIR must be filed immediately, and strong measures must be taken to ensure the safety of doctors and healthcare workers. I, along with an AAP delegation, seek an urgent meeting with the Union Home Minister to present our case in detail. We request that time be given at the earliest so that justice can be ensured and such unfortunate incidents are not repeated in future,” he stated.
