In a powerful show of unity, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Sanjay Singh led a vociferous protest inside the Parliament premises against the BJP Government’s ongoing demolition of jhuggis in Delhi. Backed by Samajwadi Party MPs, the demonstration denounced the BJP government for betraying the same poor families it once courted with promises and photo-ops
“PM Modi had distributed cards promising ‘Jahan Jhuggi, Wahan Makaan’. BJP leaders spent nights in these jhuggis, ate food with the poor—now the same leaders are sending in bulldozers to raze their homes,” Sanjay Singh said. He pointed out that the BJP is targeting migrants from Bihar, warning, “Today the BJP is chasing Biharis out of Delhi. Come elections, Biharis will chase the BJP out of Bihar.”
On Thursday, during a protest inside the Parliament premises, senior AAP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh said, “Jhuggis, homes, and shops of people from Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and Purvanchal living in Delhi are being demolished on a large scale. Jhuggis are being ruthlessly bulldozed. Shops and homes of the poor are being torn down. Bulldozers are being unleashed on the lives and livelihoods of migrants from UP, Bihar, and Purvanchal. Today, we registered a strong protest in Parliament against these actions. I have also submitted a notice under Rule 267, demanding that the demolition drives be immediately halted and that the issue be taken up for discussion in the House.”
The AAP MP further stated that Samajwadi Party MPs from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar had joined AAP’s protest in solidarity. “I thank the Samajwadi Party for standing with us. The AAP will continue to fight for the rights of the poor, for the jhuggi dwellers, and for our brothers from Purvanchal. Those who are trying to evict Biharis from Delhi will be chased out of Bihar by the people in the next election. Those targeting migrants will be taught a lesson,” Sanjay Singh declared.
Hitting out at the BJP, Sanjay Singh said, “The Delhi BJP government is lying when it claims that proper notices were issued before demolitions. Everyone knows how PM Modi distributed cards promising ‘Jahan Jhuggi, Wahan Makaan’ (where there is a jhuggi, there will be a house). BJP leaders spent nights in these jhuggis. They ate food offered by the same people whose homes they are now crushing under bulldozers.”
Quoting a poignant line, Sanjay Singh added, “Log toot jaate hain ek ghar banane mein, aur tum taras nahi khaate bastiyan mitane mein” (People break themselves building a home, and you show no pity in destroying entire settlements). “This line fits BJP perfectly. The BJP is anti-poor. It is anti-jhuggi. It is anti-UP, anti-Bihar, and anti-Purvanchal. Their actions make this abundantly clear.”
AAP MP Sanjay Singh has shared videos and photos of the protest held inside Parliament premises by Aam Aadmi Party and Samajwadi Party MPs against the demolition of jhuggis in Delhi. He said, “A protest was held in Parliament against the bulldozers being run in Delhi. Samajwadi Party MPs stood with us on this issue, and I thank them for their support.”
Chants of “Modi ji, have some shame! BJP, have some shame! Rekha Gupta, have some shame! Stop evicting Purvanchalis! Stop the bulldozers!” echoed through the protest, highlighting the growing outrage against a brutal and targeted attack on Delhi’s poor and marginalized.
