A brief spell of rain on Wednesday was enough to drown the BJP government’s lofty claims of “proper planning” under Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. As large parts of Delhi turned into water-logged swimming pools, residents were seen wading through knee-deep water, some even boating through inundated streets.
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has lambasted the BJP administration, with Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj, senior leader Manish Sisodia, and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Atishi sharing videos of waterlogged roads to expose the failure of BJP’s so-called monsoon preparedness. The AAP took potshots at the ruling party, saying that while Delhiites are forced to swim through the city, they are now inviting BJP leaders to join them in the water.
The AAP has slammed the BJP-led MCD and Delhi government for turning the national capital into a flood zone after just a short spell of rain, exposing the utter failure of their so-called “proper planning.” On its official X handle, AAP posted several videos of severe waterlogging across Delhi, raising serious questions over the BJP’s preparedness and accountability.
One such video from West Vinod Nagar shows National Highway 24 completely submerged after morning rains. AAP asked, “CM Rekha Gupta, where is your ‘proper planning’? You boasted of big arrangements in the media, but today the whole of Delhi is drowning while you relax in your palace. The public is swimming on the roads, inviting BJP leaders to join them. This is the condition of the city after just a light shower. What happened to your ’excellent arrangements’?”
AAP Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj shared multiple videos of waterlogged roads on X, including one from Patparganj where a woman was seen rowing a boat. He commented, “This boat service is not run by the government, but we salute the special contribution of BJP’s Delhi government.” In another video, he remarked, “Free water sports in Delhi, location – West Vinod Nagar. Special thanks to all four engines.”
Former Deputy CM and senior AAP leader Manish Sisodia also posted on X, targeting BJP for the dire state of Patparganj Assembly constituency. “This is what BJP has done to Patparganj. BJP MLAs and their extortionist cronies are busy sucking the blood of shopkeepers by asking their caste and religion, while the entire constituency is submerged in floods.”
He also posted a video of water inside the MCD girls’ school in Tikri Kalan, saying, “This is the sinking future of children in the capital of our country under the BJP’s four-engine government. Absolutely shameful.”
Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Delhi Assembly, Atishi, shared multiple videos on X, sarcastically congratulating BJP’s four-engine government for launching water sports and boating in Delhi. Sharing footage of waterlogging from Kailash Colony, Vasundhara Enclave, and Patparganj, she said, “This is what Delhi looks like after just ten minutes of rain. Congratulations to the Rekha Gupta government for launching water sports, boating and swimming pools in the city.”
One of the videos posted by Atishi from the MCD Girls School in Tikri Kalan shows classrooms filled knee-deep with water, with children sitting on desks. She wrote, “The BJP’s four-engine government should be ashamed. Water has entered classrooms in Tikri Kalan’s MCD Girls School, and BJP doesn’t care. Where are CM Rekha Gupta and BJP Mayor Raja Iqbal Singh?”
Senior AAP leader and National Media In-Charge Anurag Dhanda took to X and said, “As soon as it rains, boats start running on Delhi’s roads. BJP has wrecked the city. CM Rekha Gupta, are you commuting to the office by car today, or by boat?”
MCD LoP Ankush Narang also posted the Tikri Kalan video slamming BJP: “The incompetent four-engine BJP government should be ashamed. Classrooms in the MCD Girls School in Tikri Kalan are knee-deep in water. Innocent children are risking their lives to study, but none of the BJP’s four engines care. Is winning elections the only aim? Don’t BJP leaders feel responsible for the safety of our people and our children?”
The AAP said this crisis is not a result of rainfall but the rot of institutionalised apathy and misgovernance. Instead of preparing the city, BJP’s focus remains on extortion, theatrics, and propaganda. The people of Delhi are watching—and they will remember.
