Public anger against skyrocketing private school fees—facilitated by the BJP government in Delhi—has reached a boiling point. On Saturday, hundreds of parents under the banner of United Parents Voice took to the streets, launching a mass signature campaign and announcing they would not pay the arbitrary hikes. Chants against the BJP government echoed across the protest site, as furious parents accused it of colluding with private schools to exploit families.
Sharing videos of the protest on X, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) extended its support and launched a fierce attack on the BJP, declaring that the ‘education mafia’ has returned to power in Delhi’s schools ever since the BJP came to the helm.
The AAP on Saturday strongly criticised the BJP-led Delhi Government for backing private school mafias and burdening families with exorbitant fee hikes. The party said that frustrated and helpless parents are now being forced to abandon their work and take to the streets in protest.
The AAP pointed out that parents are being forced to protest on the streets against the hiked fees by private schools. “Ever since the BJP government took power in Delhi, the private school mafia has been revived and has arbitrarily raised fees. The BJP government is standing hand-in-glove with these education mafias. Troubled by the tyranny of the education mafia and the BJP government, parents are now taking to the streets and staging protests,” the party said.
The party further stated, “Not once did parents of children studying in private schools have to take to the streets during Arvind Kejriwal’s government in Delhi. That’s because the Kejriwal government always prioritised parents’ interests and never allowed private schools to arbitrarily raise fees. Some private schools even went to court demanding fee hikes, but they were rebuffed there as well. For the last ten years, parents in Delhi had been working in peace without worrying about fee increases or any related hardships. But ever since the BJP government came to power in Delhi, parents are being harassed by massive, uncontrolled fee hikes.”
The statement continued, “Parents have repeatedly pleaded with Delhi CM Rekha Gupta and other authorities to roll back the fee hike—but no one is listening. After facing continued indifference from the BJP government, parents are now left with no option but to abandon their work and take to the streets to protest. And even now, the BJP government continues to turn a deaf ear.”
