Delhi’s first major monsoon spell didn’t just flood roads—it washed away the BJP government’s credibility. From the Chief Minister to her cabinet, every tall claim of “no waterlogging this year” stood exposed, as ambulances were stranded, children were seen rowing makeshift boats, and commuters battled hours-long traffic snarls across the city.
AAP Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj lashed out at the ruling BJP, saying the capital was forced to suffer because desilting was reduced to a PR exercise. “The LG, CM, and ministers were busy staging photo sessions instead of clearing drains. Their claim that Delhi won’t flood was nothing but a cruel joke,” he said, posting damning visuals of waterlogged streets on social media. He also slammed Minister Parvesh Verma for boasting earlier that he had prepared 400 suspension letters in case of lapses. “Now that the city is submerged, how many officers has he actually suspended?” Saurabh Bharadwaj asked.
In a media interaction, AAP Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj stated, “For months, all we saw were photo ops in the name of desilting. The LG went, the Chief Minister went, ministers went, even senior officers paraded for cameras. They all claimed Delhi would never flood again,” said Bharadwaj. “BJP Minister Parvesh Verma even said he had 400 suspension letters ready for officers who fail to prevent waterlogging. Now that entire Delhi is flooded, how many officers have actually been suspended?”
He questioned the government’s silence on accountability. “The BJP had claimed that responsibility was assigned to specific officers for each locality. If that’s true, then why haven’t those officers been suspended? The water is everywhere – so were those suspension letters just for show?”
Saurabh Bharadwaj pointed out that massive contracts worth crores were awarded under the pretext of desilting drains. “When I was minister, I raised complaints that desilting was only happening on paper. I demanded a third-party audit. The audit never happened. Today, crores have been wasted in the name of desilting. Will there be an investigation? Will those responsible be suspended?”
Taking aim at the BJP’s control over Delhi’s bureaucracy, Saurabh Bharadwaj added, “The AAP government never had suspension powers – that authority lies with the LG, who is a BJP appointee. Yet even now, the BJP is not taking action. That proves there is collusion between the BJP and corrupt officials. This isn’t negligence; it’s organised corruption. That’s why, despite the evidence being right in front of them, the BJP government is refusing to act.”
In a post on X, Saurabh Bharadwaj shared a video from Patel Nagar showing an ambulance trapped in a waterlogged pothole. He wrote, “In Patel Nagar, local residents are pushing an ambulance out of a flooded pit. The rain flooded Delhi’s roads, and the roads have collapsed in many places. The LG, the CM, and ministers were busy posing for cameras, making grand claims that they’d clean the drains and prevent flooding. But the results are out in the open. This, despite Delhi having a ‘four-engine’ BJP government.”
