AAP is voice of poor—and now that voice will rise from every lane & colony, standing like wall before BJP’s bulldozers: Arvind Kejriwal

  • June 29, 2025

In a searing attack on the BJP’s ongoing demolition drive, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday organised a massive protest at Jantar Mantar under the banner of the ‘Ghar-Rozgaar Bachao’ movement. Addressing a sea of people from across Delhi—many of whom have been living under the shadow of eviction for the past five months—AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal tore into Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s much-publicised promise of “Jahan Jhuggi, Wahan Makaan.”

The AAP Chief declared that PM Modi’s real intent was never to provide homes to the poor but to wipe them off the map altogether: “What he truly meant was ‘Jahan Jhuggi, Wahan Maidan’. That’s why one by one, your homes are being razed to the ground.” Comparing Modi’s so-called guarantee to a fake product, he warned people not to fall for it again: “Don’t trust PM Modi’s guarantees—they are counterfeit, hollow lies.” Senior leaders including Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj, MP Sanjay Singh, Leader of Opposition Atishi, and Gujarat Prabhari Gopal Rai were also present in a show of united resistance against the BJP’s “dictatorial bulldozer raj.”

Addressing the massive crowd that had gathered from across Delhi for the ‘Ghar-Rozgar Bachao’ movement, AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal said, “It’s only been five months since the BJP government was formed, and look at what they’ve done to Delhi already. In just five months, they’ve pushed the city to such a state that people from across Delhi have been forced to gather at Jantar Mantar today to protest against them.”

Recalling his warning before the elections, Arvind Kejriwal said, “I had released a video message back then, specifically for the poor and marginalized, for the jhuggi residents of Delhi. I had warned you very clearly — don’t make the mistake of voting for them. Their eyes were always on your land. I had even told you that if they come to power, they will demolish your jhuggis within a year.”

Expressing shock over how quickly the demolitions began, he continued, “I never imagined they would wreck the entire city in just five months. Why have so many people left their homes and gathered at Jantar Mantar today? It’s because of the way they’ve sent in bulldozers, the way they are destroying Delhi inch by inch — people have no other option left but to protest.”

“In this unbearable heat, with temperatures crossing 50 degrees Celsius, they are mercilessly tearing down jhuggis, forcing poor families onto the streets. Little children are crying, their education has been disrupted, and under this scorching heat, people have been thrown onto the roads. They have shattered your lives without a second thought,” he added.

Explaining how demolitions destroy livelihoods too, Arvind Kejriwal further added that wherever jhuggi residents live, they earn their livelihood close by. The women work in nearby homes as domestic workers, men take up jobs as drivers or security guards nearby. Once their jhuggis are demolished, they lose both their homes and their source of income. Their entire livelihood collapses.

Hitting out at the BJP’s cruelty, the AAP Chief emphasised, “It’s as if they’ve thrown the poor into boiling oil and left them to die. Remember when PM Modi came to meet you during elections and gave a ‘guarantee’. PM Modi had said ‘Jahaan jhuggi, wahaan makaan’ — where there’s a jhuggi, there will be a house. But what he really meant was ‘Jahaan jhuggi, wahaan maidan’ — he wanted to clear the jhuggis and leave empty land behind.”

“Our country’s Prime Minister lied to you. PM Modi is a liar. They keep shouting ‘Modi ki Guarantee’ — but his guarantee is fake, his guarantee is hollow, his guarantee is completely bogus. I’m telling you clearly — never again should you fall for PM Modi’s fake guarantees,” he stressed.

Taking a jibe at BJP’s pre-election drama, Arvind Kejriwal said that their leaders came to your homes, stayed in your jhuggis, played carrom with your children and families. But I had warned you back then — they’re not here to support you, they’re here to mark which jhuggis to demolish. The same jhuggis where they stayed and played cartons, those are the homes they’ve now come to break. They are destroying Delhi systematically.

He questioned every citizen — tell me, is there a single city anywhere in the world that can function without the downtrodden? Can America, London, England, Japan — can any city run without the poor?

Warning of a collapse if the poor are driven out, the AAP Supremo, “If they demolish all the jhuggis and force poor families to leave Delhi, how will this city function? The woman who works in your home comes from the jhuggis, your cook comes from the jhuggis, your driver, your security guard, your milkman, your auto driver, your newspaper vendor — all come from those very jhuggis. If they destroy jhuggis and leave jhuggi residents homeless, running Delhi will become impossible even for a day.”

Revealing BJP’s real plan, Arvind Kejriwal said, “I was speaking to a senior BJP leader, and he said their plan is to demolish every jhuggi in Delhi. That’s their agenda — to wipe out every single jhuggi in the city. Forty lakh people live in Delhi’s jhuggis. The day all 40 lakh of you come out onto the streets together, these people in power will be shaken to the core.”

Appealing to jhuggi residents, he further said, “Your strength lies in your unity. Stand together. From this very stage, I’m warning the BJP — stop demolishing jhuggis immediately. Stay within your limits. If you don’t stop, the movement will intensify, and the protest will grow so big, it will shake your throne.”

Recalling Delhi’s political history, Arvind Kejriwal stated, “Remember, it was from Jantar Mantar that the Congress was ousted. From this same Jantar Mantar, the Anna movement began, and it wiped Congress off the map. If you don’t stop now, if you don’t stop demolishing jhuggis, this movement has started from Jantar Mantar today, and your government won’t last five years. Rekha Gupta’s government won’t even survive three years if you continue like this.”

He continued, “In just five months, they’ve turned Delhi into a disaster zone. They used to boast about a ‘four-engine government,’ but now I say they have ten engines — the Centre is theirs, the MCD is theirs, Delhi government is theirs, the LG is theirs, DDA is theirs, Delhi Police is theirs — all engines under their control.”

“If they had done any good work, built homes for the people, created jobs, then maybe the public would have praised them. But within just five months, they’ve destroyed everything. We left behind a smoothly running Delhi in February — a city with 24×7 electricity. Now, the entire city faces power cuts. Even in my house, which is just two kilometres from Rashtrapati Bhavan, the electricity goes five times a day. Across Delhi, people face six to seven-hour-long power cuts. We left Delhi in good condition — they’ve completely ruined it,” emphasised the AAP Supremo.

Arvind Kejriwal added, “Whatever I say turns out to be true. Didn’t I warn you they would demolish your jhuggis? You trusted their fake promises, and now your homes have been demolished. Now these BJP leaders are saying — wait one more year, and they will even stop your free electricity. The day free electricity is gone, living in Delhi will become impossible for ordinary people. In the 10 years of our government, we never allowed private schools to increase their fees. But the moment BJP came to power, they behaved like hungry wolves, and within no time, every private school started increasing fees without any limits.”

Highlighting the burden on families, he further added that they have increased school fees to two, three lakh rupees per year. Where will the common man arrange this kind of money? Across Delhi, every school has hiked its fees. During our ten-year government, we stopped this daylight robbery because more than half of Delhi’s private schools belong to BJP leaders. Before us, Congress was in power, and back then also, school fees kept rising every year — because most schools were owned by Congress people. BJP and Congress have always run this system.

Exposing the worsening condition of the city, Arvind Kejriwal said, “Look around Delhi today — there’s a severe water crisis everywhere. I had worked hard over ten years to get pipelines laid, water tankers arranged across Delhi. Today, people are not getting clean water — filthy, foul-smelling water is coming through taps. One by one, they are shutting down Mohalla Clinics — the clinics that provided free treatment and medicines to people.”

Criticising BJP’s dishonesty, Arvind Kejriwal said, “They are painting over our Mohalla Clinics and rebranding them as ‘Arogya Mandirs.’ If they had built even four new clinics of their own, we would have appreciated it. But they can’t do real work, so they paint our clinics and cut ribbons for publicity.”

Pointing to the collapse of civic infrastructure, the AAP Chief elaborated, “Just one rainfall a few days ago, and Delhi turned into a drain. Roads are broken everywhere, filth is scattered across the city. These people have completely ruined Delhi — just like during Congress rule. You all remember how, before our government, Delhi suffered endless power cuts. Electricity was extremely expensive. After we came, we stopped those cuts, gave 24×7 electricity, and made power free for the poor.”

“Now the BJP has taken over, and they’re repeating the same failures. They can’t govern, they don’t intend to govern. They only came to loot. Everywhere I hear stories — this BJP MLA has hoarded so much money that BJP minister has pocketed crores. All they’re focused on is looting and corruption,” he emphasised.

Arvind Kejriwal added that it took BJP 25 years to come to power in Delhi. For all this while, all they did was abuse us. And even after coming to power, they’ve done nothing but abuse and spread lies. They’re filing one fake FIR after another — against Manish Sisodia, against Satyendar Jain, against Saurabh Bharadwaj. But people didn’t vote for you to make a game out of filing FIRs, they voted for jobs, homes, schools, roads, and electricity. But if this is how they continue, BJP won’t return to power in Delhi for the next 50 years.

Calling out the BJP-Congress nexus, he said, “Both these parties are the same. In the Delhi elections, they joined hands. BJP and Congress have always been together — two sides of the same coin. Before us, during Congress rule, they were demolishing jhuggis on a massive scale. I remember, I used to live in the jhuggis of Sunder Nagri, running an NGO.”

The AAP Supremo continued, “Once, they came to demolish the jhuggis of Pandav Nagar. Manish Sisodia and I spent the entire night sleeping on the roadside with the jhuggi residents to save their homes. We didn’t let them demolish jhuggis back then. During our 10-year government, we didn’t allow a single jhuggi to be demolished. Both Congress and BJP are against the downtrodden — both parties work for the rich.”

Exposing the corrupt system, Arvind Kejriwal emphasised, “BJP and Congress only come to power to loot. Their only game is — grab power, loot as much money as possible, distribute liquor and cash during elections, buy votes, and repeat the cycle. Power brings them money, money brings them power — that’s their entire model. Only Aam Aadmi Party works for the people, for the nation, for real change.”

Listing the party’s achievements, he said, “In ten years, we changed the system in Delhi — improved schools, transformed hospitals, fixed roads, opened Mohalla Clinics, ensured stable electricity, and made it free. Now, we’re bringing this same change to Punjab as well.”

Urging people to reflect, the AAP Chief said, “It’s been 75 years since independence — has any other party ever promised to build good schools for your children? Has anyone promised to ensure healthcare? Clean water? Affordable electricity? No party did that. BJP and Congress only come to loot, while Aam Aadmi Party works for your welfare. These two parties — Congress and BJP — are like brother and sister, both working together to fool the public. Stay alert, don’t fall for their lies again.”

Warning of the power of unity, Arvind Kejriwal asserted, “Forty lakh people live in Delhi’s jhuggis. If all 40 lakh of you unite, no one will have the guts to demolish your homes. Stand together, no one can touch your jhuggis. And never trust PM Modi’s so-called guarantees again. Just like counterfeit products in the market, his guarantees are fake, hollow, and full of lies.”

Concluding with a pledge, Arvind Kejriwal said, “Today, we’ll take an oath together — repeat after me — I swear, from today onwards, I will never vote for BJP or Congress. Never again will I support these two parties.”

People from UP-Bihar built Delhi, and now BJP is branding them as ‘Bangladeshi-Rohingya’: Saurabh Bharadwaj

During this, AAP Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj said, “This is a fight for every poor person in Delhi. Ever since BJP came to power in Delhi, the poor have been rendered homeless. Where will their children go? Where will they study and work? The government doesn’t care. For these families, that one-room jhuggi is their whole world. When a bulldozer destroys it, where will they go with their children? BJP has evicted lakhs of people—where will these lakhs go now? Shockingly, a BJP minister in Delhi called these homeless people Bangladeshis and Rohingyas. Bihar and UP migrants, who’ve lived here for 40 years and built this city, are being labelled illegal foreigners.”

The AAP Delhi State President asserted, “These are the very people who cook food in the bungalows of the rich, who raise their children. The day they decide to stop working in Delhi, no rotis will be made in those homes. BJP should wake up—these poor have nothing to lose. But if they enter your homes, they’ll take everything.”

Addressing the poor and marginalized, Saurabh Bharadwaj said, “When your homes are being demolished, it’s AAP’s MLAs and councilors who are standing up for you—even those who lost elections—because they see these poor people as their own. But no BJP or Congress leader, MLA or councillor has shown up. BJP has demolished lakhs of homes in Delhi, and the Congress’s so-called messiah remains asleep.”

Today, BJP is trying to drive out people from UP-Bihar living in Delhi; tomorrow, these very people will drive BJP out of UP-Bihar: Sanjay Singh

Meanwhile, senior AAP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh stated, “Today BJP is throwing out UP-Bihar migrants from Delhi. Tomorrow, the same people will throw BJP out of UP and Bihar. The first thing BJP did after forming the Delhi government was to evict the poor and label UP-Bihar residents as Bangladeshis. We must ensure BJP candidates lose their deposits in UP-Bihar.

The AAP Rajya Sabha pointed out that these are the same BJP MPs and ministers who used to stay overnight in jhuggis and promise: ‘Don’t worry, we’ll build houses where your jhuggis are—this is Modi’s guarantee.’ But they lied. Their party should be called ‘Bhartiya Jhoothi Party’—the biggest liars in the country and the world. PM Modi promised ‘Jahan Jhuggi Wahan Makaan’, but demolished jhuggis instead. After eating in their homes, BJP has betrayed the poor.

Sanjay Singh noted, “When Arvind Kejriwal and AAP leaders go to the jhuggis and ask BJP leaders why they’re demolishing homes that are 40–50 years old, BJP says these are Rohingyas and Bangladeshis. They’ve used the same slurs for UP-Bihar migrants. I had warned them in Parliament—I’ll rip apart anyone who calls our people illegal foreigners. Every time the rights of jhuggi residents are raised, it is Arvind Kejriwal who stands up for them.”

Sanjay Singh affirmed, “Arvind Kejriwal gave your children free education, free healthcare through Mohalla Clinics, free bus travel for women, pensions and pilgrimages for the elderly. He fought for jhuggis. Now it’s time for jhuggi residents to stand shoulder to shoulder with us to wipe BJP off the map. We won Punjab, we even won in Gujarat—Modi’s own backyard—and now, under Kejriwal’s leadership, the politics of schools and hospitals is spreading across India. Those calling UP-Bihar migrants Bangladeshis today will be driven out of Bihar tomorrow.”

Arvind Kejriwal says ‘Remove Poverty’, but BJP wants to remove poor themselves: Atishi

The Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Delhi Assembly, Atishi, said, “This movement is the beginning of our fight to save homes and livelihoods. Arvind Kejriwal had warned—BJP isn’t visiting you to play carrom, they’re here to conduct surveys of your jhuggis. Wherever they eat, they run bulldozers. That’s exactly what’s happening.”

The Delhi Assembly LoP noted that since BJP came to power in Delhi, one by one, jhuggis are being demolished—Madrasai Camp, Wazirpur, Zakheera, and the Bhumihin Camp in Kalkaji have all seen bulldozers. Thousands are on the streets, but the BJP’s bulldozers don’t stop. Even after thousands became homeless, BJP’s heart hasn’t melted. People say: as long as Arvind Kejriwal was CM, no jhuggi was touched. The moment BJP took over, demolitions began.

Atishi stated, “Arvind Kejriwal said ‘remove poverty,’ BJP says ‘remove the poor.’ BJP has decided to leave no space for the poor to live. They want to snatch this land and hand it to their billionaire friends. But as long as a single drop of blood flows in AAP leaders’ veins, this fight will go on—from the streets to the Vidhan Sabha, from the courts to Parliament.”

“The poor must now use the strength they’ve used to build Delhi to save their homes and jobs. No power—not even the BJP—can stop them,” asserted Atishi.

BJP must stop demolishing jhuggis, or jhuggi residents will be forced to occupy the Prime Minister’s residence – Gopal Rai

Senior AAP leader and Gujarat Prabhari Gopal Rai declared: “This fight may have started from Jantar Mantar, but it won’t stop here. The sons and daughters of Purvanchal, who spilled blood during India’s freedom struggle, are being evicted today. This is our country. If you try to snatch our homes, we’ll show you we can take yours.”

Gopal Rai urged the BJP administration to stop using laws and DDA as excuses. “Stop destroying livelihoods. Do you even know how children cry when bulldozers destroy their only home? Even after 70 years of independence, the government couldn’t provide one house—and now, it’s destroying the ones the poor built with their life savings,” he pointed out.

Addressing the BJP, Gopal Rai noted, “You said ‘Jahan Jhuggi Wahan Makaan’? Then first give us a house—we’ll leave the jhuggi ourselves. But if you demolish without a plan, the poor will march into the Prime Minister’s residence. Deploy all the police you want—Delhi is ours, and we’re not going anywhere. You think destroying our jhuggis will drive us back to Bihar, UP or Rajasthan? We fought for India’s freedom. We’ll fight for our rights and we will win.”

Entire Delhi joins AAP’s ‘Ghar-Rozgar Bachao Andolan’ at Jantar Mantar

In response to AAP’s call, thousands gathered at Jantar Mantar on Sunday for the Ghar-Rozgar Bachao Andolan. People from jhuggis across Delhi came in huge numbers to raise their voice against BJP’s anti-poor agenda. From 10 AM, the crowd kept swelling, waving banners and raising slogans against the BJP government.

When Arvind Kejriwal arrived, the crowd erupted in cheers. Hope and determination gleamed in the eyes of the displaced poor. Despite the intense summer heat, the turnout was massive—clear proof that Delhi’s people are suffering under five months of BJP misrule. Electricity, water, education, and healthcare—all basic services—have become a daily struggle. The message was loud and clear: Delhi’s poor will not be silent anymore—and AAP will fight with them, till the end.
