AAP’s Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj has pointed out that the BJP administration is trying to suppress the voices of Delhi’s displaced jhuggi residents ahead of AAP’s massive protest at Jantar Mantar on Sunday, June 29. Calling it a fundamental right to protest, Saurabh Bharadwaj said the BJP is afraid of public outrage against its anti-poor policies and is now using Delhi Police to stifle democratic expression.
The AAP unit chief warned that if any obstruction occurs during the protest, the Delhi Police and its officers will be held responsible. “The BJP Government has made the lives of the poor unbearable—and now it doesn’t even want them to speak up,” he said.
During an interaction with the media on Friday, senior AAP leader and Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj stated, “Multiple orders by different courts in Delhi have made it clear that any citizen has the right to raise their voice against the government at Jantar Mantar. Before the BJP came to power in Delhi, citizens were free to protest anywhere—at India Gate, in neighborhoods and streets, at Ramlila Maidan, ITO, and even outside the Prime Minister’s residence. But ever since the BJP came to power, they have restricted this right, declaring that protests can only happen at Jantar Mantar. That is why the AAP will certainly hold its protest at Jantar Mantar.”
“It is our fundamental right. If the AAP aap is stopped from protesting and any issue arises as a result, Delhi Police officers will be held responsible,” Saurabh Bharadwaj asserted.
He further criticised the BJP for its inhumane treatment of the poor in Delhi, noting that the party is unleashing chaos across the city. “The BJP has created mayhem in Delhi. They have made life miserable for the poor. They’ve demolished homes—now where will these poor families go with their young children? And on top of that, the BJP wants to ensure they can’t even raise their voice against this injustice. BJP wants to destroy the lives of the poor and push them out to Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Yet, they expect the same poor people to stay silent? The poor will raise their voice against the BJP government—because they are left with no other option.”
Saurabh Bharadwaj issued a stern warning: “If Delhi Police stops us from going to Jantar Mantar and that leads to any unrest or problem in Delhi, then the officers of Delhi Police will be solely responsible for it.”
The Aam Aadmi Party reiterated that the upcoming protest is a peaceful and democratic assertion of the rights of the poor who have been displaced and silenced by the BJP government. The party remains firm in its decision to stand with the affected families and demand justice.
