The horrific rape and murder of a nine-year-old girl has sent shockwaves through Delhi, transforming the national capital into a symbol of failed governance and broken promises. As the city reels from yet another brutal crime against a child, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is demanding answers from a BJP establishment. AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal and senior AAP leaders have sought accountability from Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s, questioning how the capital—governed by a “four-engine government”—has become a hunting ground for predators.
AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal reacted strongly to the horrific rape and murder of a 9-year-old girl in the capital. “The brutal rape and murder of a 9-year-old innocent girl in Delhi has shaken everyone. The BJP has ruined Delhi’s law and order—our daughters are not safe even under their four-engine government,” he said in a post on X.
Arvind Kejriwal further demanded accountability from the Union government, stating, “Home Minister Amit Shah and his four-engine government must answer. Delhi’s daughters deserve both answers and justice.”
Meanwhile, senior AAP leader and Leader of Opposition, Atishi, took to ‘X’ and wrote: “Who is responsible for the rape and murder of a 9-year-old girl in Delhi? Who is responsible for the deteriorating law and order situation? BJP has a 4 engine government, yet our daughters are not safe? Where is Chief Minister Rekha Gupta ji? Where is the country’s Home Minister Amit Shah?”
During a media interaction, Atishi further stated, “Delhi is the nation’s capital, and it has been shaken to its core by the horrific rape and murder of a nine-year-old girl. This incident has not only devastated Delhi but has sent shockwaves and brought shame across the entire country.”
She added, “The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) must explain why, despite their ‘four-engine government’ in Delhi—with the central government, police, Chief Minister, and Lieutenant Governor all under their purview—they have failed to ensure the safety of our daughters. This is their responsibility.”
Atishi pointed out that when any election approaches, Amit Shah is visible campaigning everywhere. Yet, today, after a nine-year-old girl is raped, Amit Shah is missing. Everyday, Delhi’s Chief Minister Rekha Gupta is seen at various media events. But today, after a nine-year-old girl is raped, she is also nowhere to be found. Protecting our daughters is BJP’s responsibility and they simply cannot just abandon it and run away.
She asserted, “There needs to be swift and decisive action by the police and the government to instill fear in those who contemplate such heinous acts. Why does such brutality persist? Because perpetrators believe the Delhi Police won’t apprehend them, that no action will be taken, and they’ll evade punishment for years. This is a government failure, directly leading to the audacity with which individuals commit such monstrous crimes.”
On the other hand, senior AAP leader and former minister, Gopal Rai, wrote on ‘X’, “The heartbreaking incident of rape and murder of a 9-year-old innocent girl in Delhi’s Nehru Vihar shook everyone. Daughters are not safe even in BJP’s four-engine government. Delhi’s daughters want justice.”
Senior AAP leader and Delhi Assembly LoP Atishi’s Letter to Union Home Minister Amit Shah:
It is with immense grief and outrage that I write this letter. The National Capital Delhi, which is the nation’s pride and falls under your direct supervision, has once again been shamed today. The heart-wrenching incident of the rape and murder of a 9-year-old innocent girl in Nehru Vihar, North-East Delhi, has shaken the entire nation. The child’s body was found in a suitcase inside a locked house, with injuries on her face and body revealing the horror of sexual assault. This incident is not merely a crime but a living testament to the failure of your government.
The law and order situation in Delhi is deteriorating day by day. A decade ago, the barbarity inflicted on Nirbhaya in Delhi had shamed the whole of India, and today, another daughter has fallen victim to the same brutality in that very Delhi. Is this not the failure of your 4-engine BJP government, which has completely failed to make Delhi safe?
You are the Home Minister of the country; the responsibility for Delhi’s law and order lies directly with you. Yet, your silence and inaction after such incidents are unbearable. When will Delhi’s daughters feel safe? Why are criminals so emboldened? Is your government only busy saving its seat of power while our daughters remain unsafe on Delhi’s streets? I demand a high-level inquiry into this case, immediate arrest of the culprits, strictest punishment for them, and concrete steps to rectify law and order in Delhi. This is not the time for slogans and promises, but for action. The people of Delhi demand answers from you.
As a woman and a daughter of Delhi, I ask you this question: What are you doing to protect our daughters?
Delhi Assembly LoP Atishi’s Letter to Delhi CM Rekha Gupta:
I am writing this letter to you with immense anguish. Delhi, which is the capital of our country, has once again trembled with the screams of an innocent daughter. The rape and brutal murder of a 9-year-old girl in Nehru Vihar has shaken Delhi’s soul. The child’s body was found packed in a suitcase, with injuries and marks of sexual assault on her body that reveal the horror of this crime. This incident is clear evidence of your government’s failure in Delhi.
Under your leadership, the BJP’s so-called 4-engine government has completely failed to make Delhi safe. A decade ago, the Nirbhaya case shook the soul of Delhi and the country, and today another daughter has gone through the same pain. Delhi’s daughters are unsafe, and you, despite being a woman Chief Minister, remain silent on this issue?
You are Delhi’s Chief Minister, but your inaction and indifference is astounding. When Delhi’s streets have become safe for criminals and dangerous for daughters, you remain quiet? Are you in this position merely to enjoy the pleasures of power? The people of Delhi are asking you questions – when will our daughters be safe? Why are criminals being given free rein?
I demand that there be a swift and impartial investigation of this case, that the guilty be given harsh punishment, and that immediate steps be taken for the safety of women and girls in Delhi. This is not the time for making excuses, but for accountability and action.
I, as a woman and daughter of Delhi, ask you – what are you doing for our safety?
