AAP’s student wing, the Association of Students for Alternative Politics (ASAP), has kicked off a bold campaign to reclaim student politics. Launched by AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday, ASAP is calling on students across the country to join a movement that rejects muscle power and bias, and backs merit.
Determined to carry forward Arvind Kejriwal’s vision of alternative politics, ASAP will contest DUSU polls with full strength and take its mission to campuses nationwide. On Wednesday, members of the AAP’s student wing Yuvraj Tanwar, Deepak Bansal, and Yash Phogat, held a joint press conference at the party headquarters to share their future strategy.
Addressing the press conference, Yuvraj Tanwar said, “On Tuesday, AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal launched the Association of Students for Alternative Politics (ASAP) at Constitution Club for all students. The impact Arvind Kejriwal has made in Delhi’s politics is being recognised not only across the country but around the world. He has given the nation a platform for alternative politics. Discussions in our politics now include education, basic amenities for the poor, and the rights of women.”
He added, “Elections began to focus on the development and services that the people rightfully deserve—this has been the biggest victory of the Aam Aadmi Party. Continuing this effort, ASAP has been launched to raise student voices even in those colleges where elections are not held. Arvind Kejriwal has worked, and continues to work, towards building such a platform where deserving students can rise without discrimination or muscle power. The fire for change that Arvind Kejriwal ignited across the country—ASAP is a spark of that fire in student politics.”
Highlighting ASAP’s goals, Yuvraj Tanwar said, “ASAP will work to ensure everyone receives their due without discrimination, to advocate for students’ basic needs and the rights of non-teaching staff in universities, and to transform all institutions so they rank among the world’s top. We will work on education so that Indian universities are counted among the top ten globally. ASAP will not remain limited to student politics, nor is it driven by an ambition to win elections. We are dreaming of the revolution that Arvind Kejriwal began. Our aim is to raise the flag of that revolution in every institution and make India the number one country in the world.”
Meanwhile, Yash Phogaat stated, “ASAP talks about alternative politics. Its core aim is to provide a political platform to ordinary students. Today, student politics has become confined to the wealthy. We want more and more common students to join ASAP. In the age of AI, even small student issues remain unresolved.”
“ASAP has been formed to amplify those voices. We appeal to students to join ASAP and raise their voices. In the coming days, ASAP will carry out several activities to connect with students. It will not remain limited to elections alone, but will also undertake other social initiatives,” he added.
On the other hand, Deepak Bansal stated, “Student politics has lost its focus on issues. Students, split across different organisations, have been directionless. To provide a platform to such students, ASAP has been formed. With full strength, ASAP will contest the Delhi University Students’ Union elections. There are 52 colleges affiliated with Delhi University, including 4 departments and 48 colleges where voting takes place. ASAP has established its units in all 52 colleges. These units will soon be formally announced.”
He further added, “ASAP will soon release a helpline number so that more students can connect with us. It is the vision of Arvind Kejriwal and the AAP that ASAP should not be limited to just student politics. Other student organisations are confined to politics alone. ASAP’s vision is to connect with students in colleges where union elections are not held, through social and cultural activities.”
“Starting next month, ASAP will honour Class 12 toppers in all districts of Delhi. We will also strengthen our presence by establishing units in Jamia Millia Islamia University, Jawaharlal Nehru University, and IP University. I call upon all student union leaders and students to join ASAP and work for change in the country. ASAP stands for education reform. Students should join us and work together to bring change in the education system,” he concluded.
