The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has laid bare BJP’s calculated and corrupt campaign to engineer the defection of 13 AAP councillors. Terming it a “deep conspiracy,” AAP revealed that the BJP—desperate to regain control of key MCD committees where it lacks majority—has been actively indulging in horse-trading since the mayoral elections, offering councillors ₹5 crore each to switch sides.
The AAP asserted that the defections are not spontaneous but part of a long-running strategy that BJP is now masking under false pretenses. “From beginning to end, this is BJP’s handiwork. The truth will come out,” AAP declared, warning that this manufactured exodus is just the latest chapter in the BJP’s relentless attempt to subvert the democratic mandate in Delhi.
During a media interaction, AAP’s Chief Spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar stated on Saturday that, “Even during the Mayor elections, the AAP had exposed how the BJP was attempting to buy out our councillors. The BJP had offered ₹5 crore each to AAP councillors to switch sides and join their party. The recent resignations of our councillors are also nothing but a new form of this very same horse-trading.”
The Chief AAP Spokesperson stated that these resignations are mere charade—they are part of the BJP’s conspiracy. The fact remains that the BJP still does not have enough numbers to constitute the Standing Committee and Ward Committees. That is why they are resorting to such deceitful tactics. The resignations of councillors are just a staged drama. In the coming days, it will become crystal clear that these resignations are part of a well-orchestrated BJP conspiracy.”
Highlighting the BJP’s repeated misuse of power to destabilise elected institutions, Priyanka Kakkar further said, “This is yet another manifestation of the BJP’s attempts at horse-trading. This is exactly the kind of politics the BJP has normalised—why would the people expect anything else from them? If there is any political party that has truly delivered on governance, it is the AAP. In the entire history of Indian politics, only AAP has demonstrated genuine commitment to public service. In just 10 years, AAP has achieved what other parties could not deliver in 75 years, and the results are there for all to see.”
