PM Modi squandered chance to reclaim PoK & support Balochistan’s freedom by accepting Trump’s so-called mediation: Sanjay Singh

  • May 11, 2025

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has slammed the United States-brokered ceasefire between India and Pakistan, calling it a ‘blow to India’s sovereignty’ and ‘a serious compromise of national integrity’. Senior AAP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh lashed out at the Narendra Modi-led government for allowing American intervention, stating that the ceasefire deal announced by US President Donald Trump came at a time when India had a historic opportunity to reclaim Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and support Balochistan’s struggle for freedom.

“For 78 years, India has firmly rejected third-party mediation in matters concerning Pakistan—then what business did America have here today?” Sanjay Singh asked. Demanding accountability, he urged the Prime Minister to convene an all-party meeting and a special session of Parliament to explain the real reason behind what he described as a surrender of national honour.

During a press conference on Sunday, senior AAP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh stated, “In Pahalgam, 25 innocent and unarmed Indian citizens and one citizen from Nepal were shot dead by terrorists. These terrorists snatched the sindoor from the foreheads of our sisters. Terrorists, backed and funded by Pakistan, infiltrated 200 kilometres into Indian territory, killed our innocent people, and left unchallenged. The entire country is outraged and furious over this incident. Even today, people have not been able to forget this tragedy.”

Referring to the government’s response, Sanjay Singh said, “Following the Pahalgam terror attack, the Government of India convened an all-party meeting to brief the country about the incident, after which the Indian Army launched ‘Operation Sindoor’. In a display of pride, valour, and unmatched courage, the Indian Army entered Pakistani territory and destroyed nine terrorist camps. The whole country salutes the bravery and heroism of our armed forces.”

“In the all-party meeting, the government stated that the Indian Army eliminated over 100 terrorists and their supporters. The government also declared that Operation Sindoor was still underway — meaning all 21 identified terror camps would be eliminated. The terrorists who came from Pakistan and desecrated the sindoor of our sisters would be hunted down, killed, and captured — that was the very aim of Operation Sindoor,” he added.

Emphasising the strength of India’s defence capabilities, the AAP MP said, “At the borders, our Army was demonstrating unparalleled courage, entering Pakistan and striking at will. Our technological advancements were so powerful that the Army foiled all drone attacks launched from Pakistan and even destroyed Pakistani drones and airbases. When Pakistan attacked a gurdwara, several Indian soldiers were martyred — ADC Rajkumar Thapa in Rajouri, Havaldar Dinesh Sharma, Ali Sheikh, Sub-Inspector Imtiyaz, and Pawan Kumar. Our soldiers were laying down their lives to counter Pakistani terrorism and military aggression.”

Highlighting a missed strategic opportunity, Sanjay Singh said, “The Indian Army had a significant opportunity to take control of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), where terrorist camps continue to operate openly. It is well known that Pakistan is the world’s biggest terror-exporting nation. Terrorists like Hafiz Saeed, Masood Azhar, and even Osama bin Laden have been sheltered there. When members of Masood Azhar’s family were targeted, Pakistani Army officers attended their funerals — even US-sanctioned terrorists were present.”

He continued, “Today, the people of India are asking: when our Army was showing exceptional courage, confronting Pakistani forces, destroying terror camps, and was in a position to take PoK — even potentially separating Balochistan from Pakistan, as was done with Bangladesh — why did the United States suddenly announce a ceasefire? Is this not a betrayal of the self-respect of 140 crore Indians? Is this not an attack on India’s sovereignty? Will the world’s largest democracy now be dictated to and pressured by the US?”

Criticising the ceasefire announcement, Sanjay Singh said, “Just as our Army was moving towards achieving its objective, a ceasefire was suddenly announced from US soil. President Donald Trump made the announcement, and the Indian government quietly accepted it. The Indian people have no knowledge of the terms of this ceasefire.”

“The entire nation is demanding answers from the Prime Minister — what happened to those four Pakistani terrorists who desecrated the sindoor of our sisters in Pahalgam? When and how will they be brought to justice? No one has the right to toy with India’s sovereignty, pride, and dignity. India is fully capable of taking its own decisions. Those who hold high office — from the Prime Minister to Cabinet Ministers — have all sworn to uphold India’s sovereignty. This ceasefire is a direct blow to that very sovereignty,” added the AAP MP.

Raising concerns over foreign interference, Sanjay Singh said, “For the last 78 years, India’s consistent stand has been that any India-Pakistan issue will be resolved bilaterally, without third-party mediation. So how did the US suddenly become a mediator? President Donald Trump is calling both India and Pakistan ‘great nations’. He considers Pakistan a great country — does Prime Minister Narendra Modi also believe the same about a nation that harbours terrorists?”

The Rajya Sabha MP further added, “He calls Pakistan a powerful country — does the Prime Minister also consider a country that cannot even feed its people to be powerful? He is now talking about India-Pakistan negotiations taking place in a neutral location. When was this decided? Where was such a decision taken? The entire nation is angry and filled with questions, and it is the Prime Minister who must step forward and answer.”

Criticising proposed trade relations with Pakistan, Sanjay Singh said, “The US is now saying that trade ties between India and Pakistan should be established. But why should India pursue trade relations — at America’s behest — with a traitorous country that couldn’t even uphold a ceasefire for three hours? The entire nation salutes the bravery, valour, and courage of the Indian Army.”

He concluded by stating, “When our forces were moving towards capturing PoK and isolating Balochistan from Pakistan, under what circumstances and under what pressure did President Donald Trump’s intervention lead to this ceasefire? The Prime Minister must share full details with the country. A special session of Parliament and an all-party meeting should be convened to explain the reasoning behind this ceasefire to the people of India.”

AAP’s Chief Spokesperson, Priyanka Kakkar took to ‘X’ and wrote, “In this battle between humanity and terrorism, 1.4 billion Indians stood with the Prime Minister. But now, we all feel betrayed — how could a foreign power impose a full stop on our internal matter? If this ceasefire had been declared by the Prime Minister, it would have been understandable.”

She emphasised, “The Prime Minister must address the nation and explain why a foreign power superseded the Government of India in making such a decision. And after a ceasefire like this, can we still trust Pakistan?
