The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has called out Delhi’s Water Minister Parvesh Verma for falsely blaming Punjab for the city’s water shortage. The Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Delhi Assembly, Atishi, pointed out that Delhi receives its water from the Yamuna and Ganga rivers, not Punjab. Despite full supply through the Munak and Upper Ganga canals, the shortage is due to BJP’s mismanagement. Atishi has called for Parvesh Verma’s resignation, calling him out for being unfit to manage the city’s water supply.
On this, Delhi Assembly LoP Atishi stated, “Delhi’s Water Minister Pravesh Verma gave a statement today claiming that there is a water shortage in Delhi because Punjab is not releasing water. First of all, being Delhi’s Water Minister, I would expect that in the past two months, he would have at least learned that Delhi receives water from only two rivers — one is the Yamuna River, through the Munak Canal, and the other is the Ganga River, through the Upper Ganga Canal. Neither the Ganga nor the Yamuna flows from Punjab. Therefore, Punjab cannot stop Delhi’s water. Please stop lying to the people of Delhi.”
She revealed, “Secondly, Delhi is receiving the full allotment from both the rivers. That means, if there is a water shortage in Delhi today, it is because of the mismanagement by the BJP. They do not know how to manage Delhi’s water supply. And that is the reason behind the water shortage in the city.”
Atishi said to the Delhi Water Minister, “If even after being the Water Minister for more than two months you still do not know which rivers supply water to Delhi, and if you are unable to manage Delhi’s water situation and are resorting to making excuses and telling lies to cover up your mismanagement — then you should resign from your post as Water Minister.”
The Delhi Assembly LoP took to ‘X’ and wrote, “Delhi’s Water Minister Parvesh Verma should resign because he doesn’t even know that Delhi gets its water from just two rivers — the Yamuna and the Ganga — and neither of them flows through Punjab. So Punjab simply cannot stop Delhi’s water.”
She revealed, “Delhi is receiving its full share of water from both the ‘Upper Ganga Canal’ and the ‘Munak Canal’. There is no reduction in supply. If people in Delhi are facing water shortage, it’s due to BJP’s mismanagement. Also — if a minister doesn’t even know which rivers supply water to Delhi, how can he be expected to manage that water?”
