A devastating fire ripped through the ‘jhuggis’ of Delhi’s Rohini Sector 17 on Sunday, gutting hundreds of shanties and claiming the lives of two innocent children — a grim reminder of the unchecked vulnerability in the National Capital’s poorest quarters. As grief engulfed the area, AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and urged party workers to assist the administration in relief efforts. Senior AAP leaders, including Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj, MLA Sanjeev Jha, and leader Adil Khan, swiftly reached the scene to support the victims and coordinate immediate aid.
On this, AAP National Convener Arvind Kejriwal took to ‘X’ and wrote, “The news of jhuggis burning and the tragic death of two innocent children due to a fire in the Rohini area of Delhi is extremely painful. I appeal to all local karyakartas to fully cooperate with the administration in the relief and rescue efforts.”
The Aam Aadmi Party stated on X, “CM Rekha Gupta does not care about the people. Today, there was a massive fire in the jhuggis of Rohini, Delhi, in which two children tragically lost their lives. But look at the inhumanity of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta — she did not even express sorrow over this tragic incident. She has time to listen to the ‘Mann Ki Baat’ program and to tweet, but not to express grief over the tragedy.”
Meanwhile, AAP Delhi State President Saurabh Bharadwaj posted on X, stating, “Around 400 jhuggis were reduced to ashes due to a fire in the jhuggis of Bawana, and several children were burnt alive. The Chief Minister was in Bawana itself, but now that the elections are over, who will care for the poor?”
He added, “Before the next elections, there will again be overnight stays in jhuggis — some singing, some music, some carrom and ludo games. After all, it’s just a game. I am now heading to Bawana (Rohini).”
Delhi Assembly Leader of Opposition (LoP) Atishi stated on X that, “At 1 PM on Sunday, there was a massive fire in the jhuggis of Rohini. Two children lost their lives in that fire. And what was Chief Minister Rekha Gupta doing at that time? She was busy listening to ‘Mann Ki Baat.’ The whole day passed by. Forget visiting the jhuggis of Rohini, the Chief Minister didn’t even find time to tweet about it.”
In another tweet, Atishi said, “Whether in power or in opposition, if there is anyone who truly cares about the poor, it is the Aam Aadmi Party.”
